New research from UConn's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology shows that hummingbird beaks double as dagger-like weapons that male hummingbirds use during fights to stab at their opponents’ throats. The study, published in Behavioral Ecology, focuses on the long-billed hermit, a tropical hummingbird.
