Professor John Lie (pronounced "Lee") visited York University to give a talk comparing Korean & Japanese pop music on 23 September 2016. This is a short interview introducing the work presented in his latest book: "K-Pop: Popular Music, Cultural Amnesia, and Economic Innovation in South Korea."

He was born in South Korea, grew up in Japan and in Hawaii, and attended Harvard University where he received A.B. magna cum laude in Social Studies in 1982 and Ph.D. in Sociology in 1988. Currently he is C.K. Cho Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley.
