↓ About the project ↓
In 2006, the boundarypushing French electronic producer Julien Jabre tracked down the American gospel singer Phyliss McKoy Joubert on MySpace. Joubert had long been a beloved cult figure in the disco and early house music scenes, thanks to “Stand on the Word”. Eighteen years later, in 2003, the original mix of "Stand on the Word" reappeared as a mysterious bootleg entitled “Celestial Choir, Stand On The Word (unreleased mix)” and labelled "Larry 02". Eager to remix and officially re-release the original recording, Julien reached out to Joubert, who explained the multitrack tapes had been lost. The only thing to do, was to go back in the studio together! They also recorded an entire album including original songs written by Phyliss and several covers. In 2003, Julien founded his own label, Elias, where he could experiment and branch out from traditional house, compiling a polyglot, continually evolving body of work that has included television and film scores as well as vocal and nonvocal electronic, pop and techno. In 2005, he recorded the breakout track “Swimming Places”, a huge deep house hit at that year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, and a subsequent club staple on Defected. Now, after nine years, he and The Joubert Singers are proud to finally release the full album on Elias! Including "Stand on the Word" in its original and very unique 1982 Original Version, alongside the new Studio Version and brand new remixes, one of them by Dimitri From Paris.
