Reviews:
This is an outstanding production. For those who only know Dean Jones from the Disney pictures (The Love Bug, Shaggy D.A., etc.) and such, here is a role for the actor that provides an opportunity for him to reveal both his tremendous dramatic talent and his deep Christian faith. Although some may say it is a little slow moving (perhaps because it is a recording of a stage performance at Jack Hayford's Church on the Way), the story is excellently written and has real depth. The production makes good use of various camera angles as well as creative lighting to add drama to the presentation. You find yourself quickly drawn into the story as Jones powerfully brings St. John to life, recounting, from his cell on the isle of Patmos, his journey with Jesus and the other disciples. A real tour de force performance by Jones (in the tradition of such one-man shows as Hal Holbrook's Mark Twain or James Whitmore's Harry Truman) makes this a DVD worth watching by anyone who appreciates a magnificent performance from an incredible actor and one that should definitely be in every Christian's collection. written by paulb_30

References have been made over the years to a legendary sparring session between Heavyweight Champion to be Gene Tunney and former champ James J. Corbett, prior to Tunney's first fight with Jack Dempsey. A film was made of the meeting, but has not been seen for decades. Several years ago and a film archivist discovered an abridged version of this movie on 9mm film, a small but format high quality format in the 1920s. The Tunney-Corbett film was transferred to video for preservation.

The Meeting
According to published accounts, Jim Corbett was in Chicago for the Tunny-Risko fight of November 1925 and surprised Tunney in his dressing room after the fight. Grantlin Rice arranged for the two to meet again in New York a month later to be part of his Sportlight movie series. On the roof of the Putnam Building in New York's Times Square, Tunney and Corbett sparred for the cameras, and the two staged Corbett's demonstration classic boxing technique in slow motion. Two very brief shots of Jack Dempsey sparring at what appears to be an informal outdoor gathering are also shown.

The Film
Historically, this is perhaps the best documented meeting between pioneers of both vintage and modern boxing styles. Corbett is 59 years old and appears very fit, but I was most impressed with the fact that Corbett was taller than Tunney, and would have been even bigger in his prime. Eight months after this film was made, Tunney went on to win the Heavyweight Championship from Jack Dempsey in Philadelphia.

I obtained what turned out to be a low resolution copy of this film. Still, I made some adjustments to the exposure and image stabilization to make it as clear as possible. I'll be sure to post an update if a better copy becomes available. Enjoy this rare gem of vintage boxing.

Boys : The boys are aged between 6 and 18. Roll strength is about 960, with 360 boarders. New admissions are taken only in classes one and three. There is no intake in any other class. The school recently started plus-two section for ISC examination.

Campus and activities: The school located at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level amidst the idyllic surroundings of Kumaon Hills. It has six playing fields, a gymnasium, lawn tennis, 2 squash courts, basketball court, billiard tables, and a swimming pool. The school plays against schools like Sherwood College, St. Columba's etc. in inter-college tournaments. Events like quizzes, debates, declamations and elocution are held regularly.

The children, Susan, Patti and Wayne, were shot to death in their beds in the middle of the night. A fourth son, Billy, survived by lying still in his bed after shots were fired at him.

"I'm kind of relieved that it's kind of happening. I can't really say I'm happy, but just relieved," Billy Huling told WCCO-TV today in a telephone interview. "As far as timing goes, I think it all should have gone back 21 years ago, four days after the murder when he was first picked up. Why wasn't anything done then? After that came out, after I got information about that, during this last trial, it kind of upset me, just knowing of the other people he hurt."

According to WCCO, investigators believe Ture broke into the home to rape Susan Huling. Ture has denied any involvement in the murders, reports WCCO. Ture was convicted last year of the 1979 murder of Afton teenager Marlys Wohlenhaus. He already was serving time for the murder of West St. Paul waitress Diane Edwards.

In the 1970’s and 80’s, over one hundred families in California had their homes ransacked by the same man. Many of them woke up in the middle of the night to a flashlight blinding their eyes. Joseph rises to the position of “Tzafnat Pa’aneakh” after successfully helping the Pharaoh of Egypt with his economic plans. Under Joseph’s guidance all land became the property of Pharaoh. 

A new Pharaoh comes to power who does not favor the Israelites. They are enslaved and forced to build the storage cities of Pithom and Ramses. These cities were arsenals for the armies of Egypt. Under Seti I and Ramses the II, Egypt was on the warpath.

Ramses II was defeated at the battle of Kadesh by the Hittites. The loss of the largest Bronze Age army in history weakened Egypt and that vulnerability created the conditions in which the Israelite flight from Egypt could occur.

Billed as "History", Joseph Parker also known by his Honorary Samoan matai title "Lupesoliai La'auli" takes on "The Destroyer" Andy Ruiz Jr. This bout is billed as such, as there has never been a New Zealander nor Mexican fighter to ever win any version of the World Heavyweight Championship. Thus, either winner would make history for their respective country in one of the most anticipated sporting events in the history of New Zealand and Mexican boxing.

Parker and Ruiz are two young, undefeated heavyweights with records of 21(18)-0 & 29(19)-0 respectively. Both fighting in their first world title bout; for the vacant WBO World Heavyweight Crown.

The 2 most notable New Zealander heavyweights to fight in a world heavyweight title bout are:

1) Tom Heeney, who challenged the great Gene Tunney on July 26th, 1928 for the World Heavyweight Title and lost via TKO11 in a valiant effort.
2) David Tua, who challenged the legendary Lennox Lewis on November 11th, 2000 for the WBC, IBF, IBO, and Lineal Heavyweight Titles; losing via a lopsided UD in what was considered a huge letdown for his fellow countrymen.

The 2 most notable Mexican heavyweights to fight in a world heavyweight title bout are:

1) Manuel Ramos, who challenged the legendary Smokin’ Joe Frazier on Jun 24th, 1968 for the NYSAC World Heavyweight Title and lost via TKO2 in a non stop action bout.
2) Chris Arreola, who challenged for the WBC strap in 3 different occasions;
- September 26th, 2009. Lost to Vitali Klitschko via RTD10.
- May 10th,2014. Lost to Bermane Stiverne via TKO6.
- July 16th, 2016. Lost to Deontay Wilder via RTD8.

Going into the bout, Parker had notable wins over Alexander Dimitrenko & Carlos Takam while Ruiz had beaten former world title contender Ray Austin.

Ruiz won most of the early and arguably mid rounds, with Parker coming on stronger from the mid to the late rounds as the competition becomes more intense with the scorecards seemingly narrowing. Some very good exchanges took place particularly in the second half.

The verdict was a MD with scores of 115-113 (2x) & 114-114 in favor of the hometown favorite, Parker who became the first New Zealander in history to become World Heavyweight Champion. The decision has been disputed by many, who believe that Ruiz had won the majority of the rounds.

Nonetheless, it was a competitive fight by two young, hungry and undefeated heavyweights!

Joseph Parker had since made 2 successful defenses of his WBO strap notable an MD win over Hughie Fury in September 2017. He’s scheduled to take on the also undefeated Anthony Joshua who is now 20(20)-0 this coming March 31st.

Defying the threat of foreclosure, Ray (Kevin Costner) listens to Terence's (James Earl Jones) dreamy prediction.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
"If you build it, he will come." That's the ethereal message that inspires Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) to construct a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. At first, "he" seems to be the ghost of disgraced ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), who materializes on the ballfield and plays a few games with the awestruck Ray. But as the weeks go by, Ray receives several other messages from a disembodied voice, one of which is "Ease his pain." He realizes that his ballfield has been divinely ordained to give a second chance to people who have sacrificed certain valuable aspects of their lives. One of these folks is Salingeresque writer Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), whom Ray kidnaps and takes to a ball game and then to his farm. Another is Doc Graham (Burt Lancaster), a beloved general practitioner who gave up a burgeoning baseball career in favor of medicine. The final "second-chancer" turns out to be much closer to Ray. That "magical" field in Dyersville, Iowa still draws thousands of baseball-happy tourists each year.

In the summer of 1967, Andrew Lloyd Webber was asked by Alan Doggett, head of the Music Department at Colet court, St Paul’s Junior School who taught his younger brother, Julian, to write a ‘pop cantata’ for the school choir to sing at their Easter end of term concert.
Andrew immediately approached his friend Tim Rice to ask if he would write lyrics for the project. After toying with ideas about spies, 007′s and the like, Tim suggested the story of Joseph.

The first performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was on a cold winter afternoon on 1st March 1968 at the Old Assembly Hall, Colet Court, Hammersmith.
Accompanied by the School orchestra and conducted by Alan Doggett, the performance was only 15 minutes long.

It was such a success that a second performance was arranged on 12th May 1968 at Central Hall, Westminster, where Andrew’s father was the organist. Julian Lloyd Webber gave a classical recital in the first half, along with Bill Lloyd Webber. The audience of approximately 2,500 consisted mainly of parents of the Colet Court boys. To Andrew and Tim’s surprise, Derek Jewell, Jazz and Pop Critic for The Sunday Times, saw the show and wrote a favourable review of Joseph, which appeared on 19th May 1968. A third performance took place on 9th November 1968 at St Paul’s Cathedral, where Joseph was expanded to include songs such as ‘Potiphar’ for the first time.

John Joseph is a very well-known figure in both the hardcore punk and vegan communities. As lead singer of legendary New York hardcore band Cro-Mags, he's used his status and platform to spread the word about the benefits of plant-based diets and PMA (positive mental attitude).

What not a lot of people know about John is that on top of being an active touring musician and author, he also competes in the Ironman triathlons. These brutal tests of endurance consist of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. To say a lot of training and diet go into competing and finishing an Ironman would be an understatement.

We follow John as he prepares for an event in Boulder, CO to see what fuels a plant-based endurance athlete under such intense training.

Defying the threat of foreclosure, Ray (Kevin Costner) listens to Terence's (James Earl Jones) dreamy prediction.

"If you build it, he will come." That's the ethereal message that inspires Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) to construct a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. At first, "he" seems to be the ghost of disgraced ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), who materializes on the ballfield and plays a few games with the awestruck Ray. But as the weeks go by, Ray receives several other messages from a disembodied voice, one of which is "Ease his pain." He realizes that his ballfield has been divinely ordained to give a second chance to people who have sacrificed certain valuable aspects of their lives. One of these folks is Salingeresque writer Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), whom Ray kidnaps and takes to a ball game and then to his farm. Another is Doc Graham (Burt Lancaster), a beloved general practitioner who gave up a burgeoning baseball career in favor of medicine. The final "second-chancer" turns out to be much closer to Ray. That "magical" field in Dyersville, Iowa still draws thousands of baseball-happy tourists each year.

John Joseph is a very well-known figure in both the hardcore punk and vegan communities. As lead singer of legendary New York hardcore band Cro-Mags, he's used his status and platform to spread the word about the benefits of plant-based diets and PMA (positive mental attitude).

What not a lot of people know about John is that on top of being an active touring musician and author, he also competes in the Ironman triathlons. These brutal tests of endurance consist of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. To say a lot of training and diet go into competing and finishing an Ironman would be an understatement.

We follow John as he prepares for an event in Boulder, CO to see what fuels a plant-based endurance athlete under such intense training.

Billed as "History", Joseph Parker also known by his Honorary Samoan matai title "Lupesoliai La'auli" takes on "The Destroyer" Andy Ruiz Jr. This bout is billed as such, as there has never been a New Zealander nor Mexican fighter to ever win any version of the World Heavyweight Championship. Thus, either winner would make history for their respective country in one of the most anticipated sporting events in the history of New Zealand and Mexican boxing.

Parker and Ruiz are two young, undefeated heavyweights with records of 21(18)-0 & 29(19)-0 respectively. Both fighting in their first world title bout; for the vacant WBO World Heavyweight Crown.

The 2 most notable New Zealander heavyweights to fight in a world heavyweight title bout are:

1) Tom Heeney, who challenged the great Gene Tunney on July 26th, 1928 for the World Heavyweight Title and lost via TKO11 in a valiant effort.
2) David Tua, who challenged the legendary Lennox Lewis on November 11th, 2000 for the WBC, IBF, IBO, and Lineal Heavyweight Titles; losing via a lopsided UD in what was considered a huge letdown for his fellow countrymen.

The 2 most notable Mexican heavyweights to fight in a world heavyweight title bout are:

1) Manuel Ramos, who challenged the legendary Smokin’ Joe Frazier on Jun 24th, 1968 for the NYSAC World Heavyweight Title and lost via TKO2 in a non stop action bout.
2) Chris Arreola, who challenged for the WBC strap in 3 different occasions;
- September 26th, 2009. Lost to Vitali Klitschko via RTD10.
- May 10th,2014. Lost to Bermane Stiverne via TKO6.
- July 16th, 2016. Lost to Deontay Wilder via RTD8.

Going into the bout, Parker had notable wins over Alexander Dimitrenko & Carlos Takam while Ruiz had beaten former world title contender Ray Austin.

Ruiz won most of the early and arguably mid rounds, with Parker coming on stronger from the mid to the late rounds as the competition becomes more intense with the scorecards seemingly narrowing. Some very good exchanges took place particularly in the second half.

The verdict was a MD with scores of 115-113 (2x) & 114-114 in favor of the hometown favorite, Parker who became the first New Zealander in history to become World Heavyweight Champion. The decision has been disputed by many, who believe that Ruiz had won the majority of the rounds.

Nonetheless, it was a competitive fight by two young, hungry and undefeated heavyweights!

Joseph Parker had since made 2 successful defenses of his WBO strap notable an MD win over Hughie Fury in September 2017. He’s scheduled to take on the also undefeated Anthony Joshua who is now 20(20)-0 this coming March 31st.

Here's what I reckon is probably the definitive documentary about the amazing and sad story of The Elephant Man. QED: The True Story Of Joseph Merrick, The Elephant Man .. QED documentary, first aired on BBC in 1997.

Using exclusive access to Joseph Merrick's case history and medical notes, this programme traces the story of the so-called Elephant Man's life, from his birth in Leicester to his premature death in the London Hospital.

Joseph Carey Merrick (5 August 1862 – 11 April 1890), sometimes incorrectly referred to as John Merrick, was an English man with severe deformities who was exhibited as a human curiosity named the Elephant Man. He became well known in London society after he went to live at the London Hospital. Merrick was born in Leicester, Leicestershire and began to develop abnormally during the first few years of his life. His skin appeared thick and lumpy, he developed enlarged lips, and a bony lump grew on his forehead. One of his arms and both of his feet became enlarged and at some point during his childhood he fell and damaged his hip, resulting in permanent lameness. When he was 10, his mother died, and his father soon remarried. Merrick left school at 13 and had difficulty finding employment. Rejected by his father and stepmother, he left home. In late 1879, Merrick, aged 17, entered the Leicester Union Workhouse.

In 1884, after four years in the workhouse, Merrick contacted a showman named Sam Torr and proposed that Torr should exhibit him. Torr agreed and arranged for a group of men to manage Merrick, whom they named the Elephant Man. After touring the East Midlands, Merrick traveled to London to be exhibited in a penny gaff shop on Whitechapel Road which was rented by showman Tom Norman. Norman's shop, directly across the street from the London Hospital, was visited by a surgeon named Frederick Treves, who invited Merrick to be examined and photographed. Soon after Merrick's visits to the hospital, Tom Norman's shop was closed by the police, and Merrick's managers sent him to tour in Europe.

In Belgium, Merrick was robbed by his road manager and abandoned in Brussels. He eventually made his way back to London; unable to communicate, he was found by the police to have Dr. Treves's card on him. Treves came and took Merrick back to the London Hospital. Although his condition was incurable, Merrick was allowed to stay at the hospital for the remainder of his life. Treves visited him daily, and the pair developed quite a close friendship. Merrick also received visits from the wealthy ladies and gentlemen of London society, including Alexandra, Princess of Wales.

Aged 27, Merrick died on 11 April 1890. The official cause of death was asphyxia, although Treves, who dissected the body, said that Merrick had died of a dislocated neck. He believed that Merrick—who had to sleep sitting up because of the weight of his head—had been attempting to sleep lying down, to "be like other people".

The exact cause of Merrick's deformities is unclear. The dominant theory throughout much of the 20th century was that Merrick suffered from neurofibromatosis type I. In 1986, a new theory emerged that he had Proteus syndrome. In 2001, it was proposed that Merrick had suffered from a combination of neurofibromatosis type I and Proteus syndrome. DNA tests conducted on his hair and bones have proven inconclusive.

In 1979, Bernard Pomerance's play about Merrick called The Elephant Man debuted, and David Lynch's film, also called The Elephant Man, was released the following year. In late 2014 and early 2015, Bradley Cooper starred in a Broadway revival of The Elephant Man, directed by Scott Ellis.

Based on the William Kennedy novel of the same name Ironweed is set in the waning years of the Depression. Jack Nicholson plays Francis Phelan, a washed-up ballplayer (a onetime infielder for the Washington Senators) who deserted his family back in the 1910s when he accidentally killed his infant son by dropping him. Since that time, Phelan has been a shabby barfly, living from drink to drink; he spends his days palling around with Rudy (Tom Waits), with whom he works a motley series of jobs in exchange for a place to lay his head and an occasional jug of wine. Wandering into his hometown of Albany, New York, Phelan blearily seeks out his girlfriend and erstwhile drinking companion of nine years, Helen Archer (Meryl Streep), who has begun prostituting herself for drink and lodging. The two derelicts touch base in a mission managed by minister James Gammon, and later in Fred Gwynne's squalid gin mill. Over the next few days, Phelan takes a few minor jobs to support his habit, while his mind wavers between past and present.Eventually, a chance for a reconciliation with his wife (Carroll Baker) emerges. Directed by Hector Babenco following his enormous success with Kiss of the Spider Woman, Ironweed netted Oscar nominations for Nicholson and Streep.

“Impractical Jokers: The Movie” did just that.

The film is billed as a half-scripted, half-improv comedy following the “Impractical Jokers” crew (Staten Island buddies Joe Gatto, James “Murr” Murray, Brian "Q" Quinn and Sal Vulcano) on their trek to a Paula Abdul concert. When they are given three passes to see her perform in Miami, the four “Jokers” must battle it out in hidden camera challenges to determine who will go -- and who will be left out.


‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’ premiere: The film is ‘bigger than anything we’ve ever done’

Abdul isn’t the only celebrity who made a cameo in this film. Jaden Smith and Joey Fatone also joined the project. Pro-tip: Keep your eyes peeled for Will Ferrell in the restaurant scenes. You can catch a glimpse of him in the background.

The hidden camera challenges in “Impractical Jokers: The Movie” maintained a level of embarrassment that keeps fans cringing -- in a good way -- without abusing the idea. Unlike the show, each “Joker” experienced a self-inflicted “punishment” throughout the film. The punishments played on character traits fans are used to, like Sal’s fear of cats and Joe’s ability to cause a scene at any given time.

The scenes in between the challenges are used to fill storyline gaps during the road trip to Miami. The bits kept with the “Jokers” voice throughout, but viewers can clearly tell what is scripted and what is authentic.
STATEN ISLAND REFERENCES

As if their accents weren’t enough, the “Jokers” film sprinkled Staten Island references throughout its 93-minute runtime. While a majority of the film was not shot on Staten Island, it did include footage of the Bayonne Bridge and Ladder Co. 86/Engine Co. 166 in Graniteville, where Quinn worked as a firefighter. In multiple scenes, Vulcano rocked a Wu-Tang Clan T-shirt.

The movie starts in 1994 when the “Jokers” were classmates at Monsignor Farrell High School. Early in the film, the “Jokers” takeover a Paula Abdul concert and the audience throw “Staten Island trash” -- their words, not ours -- at the guys to get them off the stage.

The borough isn’t brought up again until the end of the movie. One of the final lines -- “It’s time to go back to Staten Island -- got some cheers from the audience at the film’s premiere Tuesday night in Manhattan.

After a devastating car crash leaves her husband on life support, one woman must find strength in her faith as she faces the prospect of his passing. Recalling their courtship through flashbacks, she relives the early days of their relationship and how they fell in love. Their journey wasn’t easy as she faced resistance from her conservative father (Corbin Bernsen), a decorated officer, who made it clear he didn’t want his daughter dating anyone from the military. But their love was stronger than any obstacle encountered in this true story of family, faith and resilience.

Two ordinary inner-city Chicago kids dare to reach for the impossible—professional basketball glory—in this epic chronicle of hope and faith. Filmed over a five-year period, Hoop Dreams, by Steve James, Frederick Marx, and Peter Gilbert, follows young Arthur Agee and William Gates and their families as the boys navigate the complex, competitive world of scholastic athletics while dealing with the intense pressures of their home lives and neighborhoods. This revelatory film continues to educate and inspire viewers, and it is widely considered one of the great works of American nonfiction cinema.

Jason Buys Phil A Birthday Present is the story of two best friends with vastly different definitions of "fun." Phil would rather relax, maybe watch a movie or something, while Jason wouldn't relax if his life depended on it.

The Bunker is a 1981 American made-for-television historical war film produced by Time-Life Productions based on the book The Bunker by James P. O'Donnell.

The film, directed by George Schaefer and adapted for the screen by John Gay, is a dramatisation depicting the events surrounding Adolf Hitler's last weeks in and around his underground bunker in Berlin before and during the Battle of Berlin. The film stars Anthony Hopkins as Hitler, plus an all star cast including Richard Jordan, Susan Blakely, and Cliff Gorman.

The film opens in 1945, with O'Donnell (James Naughton) gaining entry to the Führerbunker by bribing a Soviet sentry with a packet of cigarettes. It is followed by the film's moving to flashbacks to the months between January and May 1945 as Hitler and those in the bunker faced their last days and nights.

The actors' interpretations of the events differ in ways from the traditional accounts. For example, during the final meeting between Hitler and Albert Speer, Hopkins adopts a sarcastic tone and gestures (including mock applause) that suggest that Hitler was already aware of Speer's betrayal, even though he uses the exact words recounted by the witnesses.[citation needed] This became a fairly controversial scene due to a perception in some circles that the resemblance to Jesus Christ's legendary foreseeing of Judas's betrayal was intentional. These accusations were consistently denied,[by whom?] as were reports regarding a rumoured on-set romance between Piper Laurie (Magda Goebbels) and Cliff Gorman (Joseph Goebbels).

Also, the film constantly shifts the point-of-view character. This includes characters who are not known to have left their experiences on record. For example, Dr. Werner Haase is used in this manner, even though he was never interviewed (having died in late 1950). Likewise, two scenes are written from the viewpoint of Hitler's cook, Constanze Manziarly, and in one scene, Manziarly actually has a flashback, remembering happier days. However, Manziarly disappeared while escaping from the bunker, so neither O'Donnell nor any other person was able to interview her or get her viewpoint.

Given O'Donnell's work on the breakout, the film ends just as the groups are leaving the bunker complex of the Reich Chancellery.
