Dr. Bill has been a frequent guest on television talk shows, including 20/20, Good Morning America and CNN, and was also featured on the cover of TIME Magazine in 2012. He is the medical and parenting consultant for BabyTalk and Parenting magazines and the pediatrician on the website Parenting.com.

Kelly: Dr. Sears, welcome!

Dr. Sears: Thank you, Kelly, it’s an honor to be with you.

Kelly Thomas: Yes, So, you have written so many books – I think almost every mom in America is familiar with at least one of them – is there any particular stage of development that you think is more important or more impactful than the others?

Dr. Sears: Well I think it’s really birth to three years, Kelly and here are the reasons, a baby’s brain grows the fastest after birth for the first two to three years, it doubles in size in the first two years. So, you have the greatest chance of laying down a permanent foundation. Those wires into your baby’s brain think of your baby’s brain like the greatest garden ever grown and there are a hundred billion plants in that little garden. So, what do you do to help a garden grow? You feed it and you fertilize it and you keep the weed and the pests out. The same thing in growing a baby brain, you give them smart food, you give them lots of touches, you give them lots of love, you respond to their needs in an appropriate way and that’s how you grow your baby brain.

Kelly: That brings me to another question, Since it’s such an impactful time, do you think a child’s IQ is malleable? Are there things that you can eat or things that you can do to help raise your child’s IQ or cognitive development?

Dr. Sears: Yes they are Kelly. You used a wonderful term there called malleable. Now the scientific term for that is called neuroplasticity. Now that’s just a big word that means if the brain could talk, it would say “Hey man, I will change and adapt to whatever you need me to”. The brain is so changeable. All the wiring is so changeable so the term malleable, you’re totally correct. Now, the best way you can do that is smart foods. Let’s start with mother’s milk – wow! – smartest food ever made and I make it very simple for moms, I say alright “feed your child a smart fat diet” and as soon as I mentioned the term fat, they go “oh really? I’ve heard all these bad things about fat wrong! A baby’s brain is 60% fat so, the way I get parents to remember this, is tell them, you are growing a little fat head. A mother’s milk is 40 to 50 percent fat and doctor Mother Nature does not make mistakes. So, the first most important group of foods to grow a smarter little baby’s brain and child’s brain is fats. Number one mama’s milk. Then at six months, I have this, let’s pretend Kelly that you’re coming into my office and you want to talk about beginning solid foods to grow a little fat head and I say ok “first food avocados, wow! What’s different about avocados, they are the fattiest fruit on Earth”. So avocados at 6 months, and this will surprise your audience, at 7 months we begin salmon. I have a big sign in my office “salmon at 7 months” and parents look at me, really? Yeah, you get a piece of wild salmon and you mush it up and you place it on your finger and you place it on baby’s tongue. Now here are the three magic words “shaping young tastes’”, shaping young tastes’, beginning at 6 months. So, you shape their taste for fruits and veggies and good healthy fats like avocados and salmon and here’s another thing we do at 6 months I call it my “sprinkles test” because the most common question I get from parents is my child won’t eat vegetables.

Personally, I find calculating Reynolds number to be quite difficult.
It's done differently depending on what type of flow you have. A pipe is calculated different than an airplane wing etc.
Some fluid dynamicists would tell you that it's an exact science. I personally feel that it's a bit subjective.
The most difficult parameter to nail down in my humble opinion is the characteristic length.
It's pretty easy for pipes, you just measure the diameter... but wings, plates, vortices...get complicated quickly.


You'll notice in the video I refrained from saying anything like
"Flow is laminar when Reynolds number is less than XXX" or
"Flow is turbulent when Reynolds number is more than XXX".
There are different schools of thought on this. Typically the transition between laminar flow and turbulent flow occurs somewhere between 2100 and 4000 (Reynolds number is unitless).

Even though child actors rarely go to school because they are so busy with their shows and movies, there are plenty that are a lot smarter than the average person. If you think about it, this makes sense. In order for anyone to become so successful at such a young age, it takes a lot more than sure luck. There are plenty of kids in Hollywood that have the brains to accomplish things that would take adults years to even start. Here are some kid actors that are flat our smarter than you!
Ian Armitage played a variety of roles over the years, but you might know him as young Sheldon Cooper in the popular television show, The Big Bang Theory. Before starting his acting career, he ran his own YouTube channel to review theater shows. He probably knows more about Broadway productions than the actors who are currently on the stage themselves. The series was so successful that multiple companies started offering him job opportunities. This landed him a spot as a correspondent for Perez Hilton at the Tony Awards in 2015. He hadn’t even reached his thirteenth birthday by this point and he was already an icon. He might still have some of his baby teeth, but he’s more accomplished than we are by far. His career will hopefully only escalate and maybe one day we will see him in Oscar nominated films!

- Recent polls at Southampton University have shown a curious fact: people with a high IQ prefer poultry meat, fish, and vegetables over red meat.
- More often than not, people with a high IQ are capable of thinking up alternative solutions but not using them in life.
- One experiment showed that people with a high IQ are likely to get buried in thought and be less active, while ordinary individuals are bored more often and try to fill up their schedule.
- Some studies at Carroll University in Waukesha show that people who prefer cats are calmer, more sensitive, and have a higher IQ, while dog lovers are more active, open to others, and are used to obeying the rules.
- Intelligent people tend to stay up late, which results, more often than not, in them sleeping little. They have to wake up early in the morning to go to work or school.

Everyone knows that there was a time when the science bros were considered to be the most brilliant people in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. But do you think Tony Stark is truly smarter than Doctor Strange? After all, we’re just saying only one of them managed to master the Time Stone and the entirety of the Mystic Arts over the course of a single movie. Yes, Tony’s sacrifice during Avengers: Endgame was noble but who really contributed more to the eventual defeat of the Mad Titan Thanos? There’s definitely a reason the Ancient One chose her successor the way she did and it clearly didn’t have anything to do with his charisma. After all, it took a lot of power to defeat Dormammu but it was ultimately a victory that required a lot of strategy and planning, all done incredibly quickly of course. Trapping your enemy in a time loop is a feat very few people in the MCU could have pulled off or even thought of. And we have a feeling we’ve only seen the beginning of his brilliance and we’ll get more during Phase Four when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gets released.

As research continues, the term "bird brain" no longer carries a negative connotation. Avian researcher John Marzluff showcases a few amazing, problem solving (and sometimes vindictive) feats accomplished by crows in order to break down common misconceptions about avian intelligence.

John Marzluff, Ph.D., is the James W. Ridgeway Professor of Wildlife Science at the University of Washington. His research has been the focus of articles in the New York Times, National Geographic, Audubon, Boys Life, The Seattle Times, and National Wildlife. PBS's NATURE featured his raven research in its production, "Ravens," and his crow research in the film documentary, "A Murder of Crows". His graduate and initial post-doctoral research focused on the social behavior and ecology of jays and ravens. He was especially interested in communication, social organization, and foraging behavior. His current research brings this behavioral approach to pressing conservation issues including raptor management, management of pest species, and assessment of nest predation.

His book, In the Company of Crows and Ravens (with Tony Angell, 2005 Yale U. Press) blends biology, conservation, and anthropology to suggest that human and crow cultures have co-evolved. This book won the 2006 Washington State Book Award for general nonfiction. With his wife, Colleen, he has published Dog Days, Raven Nights (2011 Yale University Press), which combines reflection with biology and the recreational pursuit of dog sledding to show how a life in science blooms. Gifts of the Crow (2012 Free Press) applies a neurobiological perspective to understand the amazing feats of corvids. He is a member of the board of editors for Acta Ornithologica, Landscape Ecology and Ecological Applications. Currently leader of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Recovery Team for the critically endangered Mariana Crow, he is also a Fellow of the American Ornithologist's Union.

There are many companies working on this type of technology at the moment. We made ours in 2018, and Chad visited my house in January 2019 to film most of this. We didn't post it for various reasons, but decided now might be a good time. The fidelity of the inference is a function of how you train it.... so obviously the more data points you provide, the better it will perform. This particular type of machine learning is known as object detection, with the computation being performed by a deep neural network "on the edge". The video stream is processed locally and no internet is needed to find the object in real time. SUMMARY:
- If you or other people in your life prefer being alone, this doesn't necessarily mean loneliness. Sometimes it's just a sign of greater intelligence.
- Smart people often see and realize things that the people around them can't comprehend. That's why they know for sure where their life should head.
- Daydreaming might not be a distracting habit but a sign of high intelligence. In their study, psychologists from the Georgia Institute of Technology drew a connection between daydreaming and the efficiency and strength of a person's brain.
- Highly intelligent people never close themselves off if they come across new ideas or unusual opportunities. They tend to look for alternative solutions and consider the views of other people.
- Another thing that makes smart people stand out in a crowd is their ability to overcome impulsiveness. They tend to plan their actions, clarify their goals, explore different strategies, and think about consequences.
- Highly intelligent people need to know all the pros and cons before they make a decision. But at the same time, the more they analyze, the less likely they are to act.
- For some smart people, their intelligence turns out to be a curse. They simply don't fit in and sometimes wonder about the truthfulness of the expression “ignorance is bliss.”
- Smart people can see patterns nobody else pays attention to. This happens due to their ability to draw parallels.

We have news for you: it is not just about your genes, grades, or life experience. Scientists have revealed ten signs of a wise person we bet you’ve ignored.

- Dr. Mark Weiser who works for Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer and his colleagues believe there is a link between smoking and intelligence. They found that the more you smoke, the lower your IQ is.
- Super smart people are mostly quiet. They don’t babble, and they don’t often initiate conversations. Why? They are too busy thinking.
- Creativity is about drawing lines between what seems to be disconnected from others. It is possible for those who have experienced more things and have analyzed that experience. Doesn’t it sound like the definition of being wise? Those wise people normally come up with the most genius ideas.
- One of the signs of being super smart is to be bold enough to accept ideas that move our world forward.
- The more you think about the nature and future of everything around you, the more you realize different scenarios are possible. You know that at some point, it could all go wrong, and it’s making you anxious. Being always alert and prepared for whatever may come your way is typical for smart people.
- Those who successfully beat the desire to do it and are loyal partners to just one special individual tend to be smarter than those who cheat and sleep around. It is also explained in that intelligent liberals study by evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa.
- . If you are a computer systems analyst who gets new ideas from origami or a chef who is inspired by furniture design, you are pretty much a creative genius. It has to do with the ability to relate the totally unrelated and being bold enough to try new things and design new concepts.
- When we speak of risks, we don’t mean life-threatening stuff like jumping off the roofs and train surfing. Risks are the new challenges and ideas that you gladly try out of curiosity. And, quite a bit of adrenalin, as well.
- Nail biting has been largely considered just a nervous habit, yet recent studies show it may be a demonstration of perfectionism. According to psychologists, such body-focused habits as skin picking, pulling your hair or biting your nails help fight boredom and soothe dissatisfaction.

A quick clarification....
It took me 8 months to learn how to do this, but I was only picking up the bike and running to the end of the driveway and back every day. I wasn't "ACTIVELY" trying to learn. Meaning... I wasn't struggling and trying to make my brain learn. I simply got on the bike every day, tried to operate it to the end of the driveway, turned around and tried to operate it back. The goal was to understand how my brain figured things out on its own, without trying to force it to. Many people have built bikes like this and figured it out in much less than 1 day by staying on the bike until they were able to master it. I had no timelines, and was using this as an exploratory activity to learn how I learn.

Do not misinterpret this to mean that I struggled and tried very hard every day for 8 months. That's simply not true.

Here is a set of 12 riddles for a daily brain workout for you to become smarter! Check out your logic and test your brain! Solving riddles is one of the best ways to keep your brain fit. That's why I recommend you solve riddles for at least 20 minutes every day! After a few weeks, you'll crack puzzles like nothing ;)

00:14 - Test your eyes with this short riddle on crime! Only a high-class specialist will be able to find the boys before time's up. Look closely at the parents and try to find a child who resembles both of them. Yes, this is not easy at all, so don't worry if you fail the task (just like I did).
01:35 - A new episode of the show you were looking forward to! Today Detective Rid is going to face a difficult case only a pro can crack. Are you smart enough to accompany him and be his assistant for today? If so, put your hat on and rush to the crime scene!
04:37 - A thrilling logic riddle that will make you rack your brain hard! This is the hardest situation a person can ever face, but a real genius will be able to solve it and save his life and his wife's life. Will you dare to take this challenge?
