Hello everyone, and welcome to my channel. Today we’ll take a look at 5 amazing Korean films that for one reason or the other might be overlooked. Maybe it’s limited release, small marketing or just unfortunate timing. Regardless, all 5 of these are fine titles, and I’ll try to include plenty of diversity on theme or story, these should satisfy your need for horror or thriller.

Number 5. Gonjiam Haunted Asylum

It’s been a while since I saw a good found footage movie, and it’s nice to see Korean take on the subgenre. Haunted Asylum is similar to Grave Encouter in the premise, it’s about a ghost hunter crew that films at abandoned hospital. Admittedly, this might sound cliché, but it’s a solid and concise movie, only taking hints from the better parts of found footage genre.

Number 4. Forgotten

Story follows a young man and his family as they move into a new house. Everything looks perfect aside from one room that must always be locked. It starts with typical horror setup, and it does deliver on a few genuinely scary moments, but Forgotten is more than simple horror.

It dives into physiological thriller and always keeps the audience guessing on the reality and characters, even the protagonist himself. The pacing is consistently fast, with barely any breaks especially at the middle part. It transitions from horror, thriller and drama using mysteries, dark past or traumatic experience.

Number 3. Montage

Perhaps the most criminally underrated thriller from Korea. It barely has any buzz for a movie so complex. It tells the story of a crime that happened 15 years ago, and it’s reaching the statute of limitation, which means the criminal will get away unpunished. That is until a new clue appears and another identical crime takes a new victim.

The film is structured incredibly well, it doesn’t miss a single beat. The main focus are the detective from old case and the mother of victim, it goes back and forth between the two while also revealing the details of the old case. The scenes brilliantly are directed, giving just enough information for audience to invest in the case and also breadcrumbs of hints to set up the next sequences.
