Aylesbury Music Centre Dance Band, Blue Peter, Best Bits 1996
The Aylesbury Music Centre Dance Band is an internationally acclaimed youth jazz big band, having won many prestigious awards such as the BBC Radio 2 Big Band competition four times, appeared on Blue Peter eight times, performed with famous jazz musicians such as Kenny Baker, Don Lusher, John Dankworth and Georgie Fame, and appeared at world famous events such as the North Sea and Montreux Jazz Festivals. Director Nick Care, ably assisted by partner and 'band manager' Kathy Gifford, fostered a succession of gifted school age jazz musicians for around twenty nine years until 2014. Today many of their alumni play on, in the form of the Nick Care Big Band, performing annually at The Court Theatre Tring, with contemporary world class jazz musicians such as Mike Lovatt, Gordon Campbell and Mark Nightingale.
