BBC News item - Endobarrier treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea – 2nd ABCD Endobarrier study

On 3 June 2016 the first patient in the End-OSA research study was started on her Endobarrier treatment. The aim is to see if the weight loss associated with Endobarrier treatment allows some patients to no longer require their CPAP overnight ventilation treatment which would be of great benefit to the patient and to the NHS. The patients also have diabetes or pre-diabetes and those problems will also be helped. The study is funded by the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) and is the second Endobarrier study that they are supporting the first being REVISE-Diabesity (https://youtu.be/xRcnMBOdb58 ). This news item was broadcast on 27 June 2016. Chief Investigator of the study is diabetologist, Dr Bob Ryder, and the ABCD research fellow who leads the study is Dr Mahi Yadagiri. The gastroenterologists who insert the Endobarriers are Dr Mark Anderson and Dr Ed Fogden and the anaesthetist who ensures comfort during the procedure is Dr John Bleasdale.
