Please Watch My 100s Of Fire Making Videos... You don't think of Quartz as providing the same primitive tools that Flint and Chert do. Here in the Upstate of SC, there's plenty of Quartz. It's everywhere. And now that I think about it, the only arrowheads that you ever find around here are Cherokee made and always made from Quartz.
I recently made a video of breaking down a 40lb hunk of Quartz that I wanted to use for Quartz and Steel. A couple of days later, I noticed some smaller shards the ground that I hadn't even bothered to pick up previously. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that some of them were RAZOR sharp. I had to try these little blades out and pretty much cut to pieces an entire t-shirt as they just kept right on cutting the light fabric. So intrigued by my first use, ever, of primitive tools, I decided to make this video.
In today's video, I broke up 4- 2" pieces quartz with a Quartz hammerstone, and used the resulting Blades, Scrapers, Saws, Drills, and Sanders to make a Privet Bow Drill Set and Fire.... and tried the new blades on some thick 2-ply denim. Come see what a beautiful job these primitive tools did... Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks!
