Coca-Cola PET Recycling Flakes
Cycle to Recycle! Turn plastic bottles into a plastic bench with a little exercise!
Today was the 34th International Coastal Cleanup and I was wowed by what Coca-Cola brought to the event.
Aside from providing free drinks, shirts, gloves, raincoats and face masks to volunteers, they also brought along a nifty machine that breaks PET bottles down to flakes which can then be used to make eco-bricks, textiles, benches and other materials.
They even brought along a sample of a bench that was formed by heating and pressing the flakes into a mould.
The machine is simple in principle. Throw some PET bottles into the hopper and start pedaling!
Apparently they’re working on a recycling facility to automate this process - from collecting, sorting, cleaning and finally breaking down into flakes or pellets.
