Written by Ross Bagdasarian.

A novelty Christmas song written by Ross Bagdasarian (a/k/a David Seville), which went to #1 in 1958, credited to the Chipmunks to acknowledge the high pitched voices used by Mr. Bagdasarian.
The disc continued its December chart run on the Hot-100, the last year that Billboard included Christmas recordings in the chart.
The 1958 release was coupled with “Almost Good” by The Music Of David Saville.

This 1960 reissue came with a picture sleeve and a new flip, “Alvin’s Harmonica”, which had been a #3 charting hit from the prior year.

Their last Hot-100 hit was “The Alvin Twist” in the spring of 1962. They remained stronger on the album charts and kept up to date by including contemporary artists on their albums, as was the case with Celine Dion and “A Very Merry Chipmunk” in 1994.

One notable revival of “The Chipmunk Song” was by Canned Heat and the Chipmunks in 1968.
