The two rappers gave very explosive but very different performances at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn where the MTV Video Music Awards were being held, adding to their long running rivalry. Kanye gave a very passionate performance of "blood on the leaves" to a very eager crowd. The image that became the backdrop for his performance was that of a tree. Not just any tree. West uploaded this pic to his website shortly before hitting the stage, explaining that this tree was "used for lynching." He began his performance with low lighting and actually performed most of it in complete darkness! Normally, that kind of scenario might put me to sleep but not Kanyes performance. His silhouette spoke volumes. You could truly appreciate the lyrics to the song, the intensity in his voice, the emotion, and certainly his very physical performance. Kanye, you get 2 thumbs up- 1 for your performance. And another for not running on stage and stealing anyones thunder during their awards speech. Being a daddy has done you good. Ok lets talk about Drizzy. He promised us something explosive and considering all the pyrotechnics involved, I think we got what he promised. Drake performed started from the bottom and hold on, were going home. He began his first song with the art to his newly released album cover behind him. He then proceeded to rile up the crowd, performing most of his 2 songs alongside the audience members. Kind of a throwback to the golden age of hip hop. No frilly dancers. No crazy set pieces. Just a man, his black wife beater looking shirt, and an insatiable crowd eating up every verse. Your turn! Whos performance did you love more?
