KCON KOREAN POP CONFERENCE
More than 10,000 excited fans crowded into the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on Sunday (25 August 2103) on the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles, for the second annual KCON Korean Pop (K-Pop) convention.
The first KCON was held last year in Irvine, California, but organizers moved the event to Los Angeles this time around, and expanded it to two days.
The event culminated on Sunday with performances by K-Pop superstars EXO, 2AM, G-Dragon with Missy Elliott and f(x).
Kris from EXO explained what it means to him be a part of KCON.
"I'm really happy to see a lot of fans in the States supporting us and hopefully because there is some language problems, hopefully, that will be okay. Hopefully we'll really have fun tonight, and they'll like our music."
Korean pop music is influenced by European dance music and American hip-hop. It is growing in popularity in the United States, especially in Southern California, which has a large Korean-American population.
Fan Isabella Hutchinson from the Korea Town neighborhood of Los Angeles explained how she was introduced to K-Pop music.
"I live in K-Town (Koreatown) and all my friends play it. It's in the cafes, so you kind of get into it. But there's always the difference between, like, listening to the music and then going to the concerts. It's like a completely different like, you start watching all the videos of them and then, it kind of goes and goes."
