Facing an existential crisis, the terminally ill daughter (Kelly Chen) of a Hong Kong shipping magnate becomes entranced by a Scottish sailor (Michael Wong). When he returns to Scotland to run his family motel, she embarks on a journey with a quirky detective to find the sailor again, and come to terms with loss.

Directed, written, and produced by UFO (United Filmmakers Organization) mainstay Lee Chi-Ngai, this is a splendid drama with a equal doses slice of life and fantasy. Much kudos belong to cinematographer Bill Wong, who lensed the film with an ethereal, dreamlike aura, albeit a dreary overcast creeping throughout. Takeshi Kaneshiro shines, Michael Wong for once in a blue moon is excellent, and Kelly Chen fairs okay. Featuring extensive voiceover, "Lost and Found" is perhaps one of the best examples of Hong Kong 90s gen-x films, dealing with issues of urban alienation, lost love, and young adult aimlessness (a la Chungking Express) from UFO, a studio well-versed in these films at the time.
