The couple were part of a rock band with Christian overtones, and their tour itinerary included lots of prisons around the country. Eventually Matt joined them as well and began writing his own songs after going through a particularly rebellious period in his late teens. He posted his work on Soundcloud, and caught the ear of the Neon Gold label, an affiliate of Atlantic records. Two key tracks, "Grave Digger" and "Cringe" are part of the singer-songwriter's ‘Who Killed Matt Maeson?’ EP. He brought a quiet intensity to his Vevo dscvr performance of “Cringe."
