NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, struggling with a domestic violence scandal in the league and widely criticized for holding too much power in how it punishes players, said Wednesday that he will appoint a chief disciplinary officer. The officer, who will be hired as soon as possible, will have a background in criminal justice, Goodell told reporters. NFL owners also unanimously endorsed a mandatory suspension of six games without pay for any violation involving domestic violence or child abuse.
