Diesel Generator
-----------------------------
If you can afford it, a diesel generator is a great thing to have. Even a small generator can output a lot of power and they're quite cost efficient to run. The only downside is the cost and complexity of maintenance and the noise.

DC to AC Inverter
-----------------------------
Connect a DC to AC inverter to your car and you have a DIY generator for very little money! If you can afford it, go for a pure sine wave inverter.

USB Powerbanks
-----------------------------
The cost of lithium-ion or lithium-polymer powerbanks has dropped hugely in the last few years. A genuine 20,000 mAh powerbank can be had for under 20 USD. Ideally, go for a Quick Charge 3.0 compatible powerbank and charger so it can recharge as quickly as possible.

Powerbank with AC Outlet
-----------------------------
Believe it or not, there are now powerbanks with built in AC outlets. They're not cheap and they're not super high capacity. But they are extremely simple and convenient to use.

Jumpstart Power Bank + DC/AC Inverter
-----------------------------
This is a cheap DIY alternative to powerbanks with built in AC outlets. Most jumpstart powerbanks can also run a DC/AC inverter. Just be careful about putting a heavy continuous load that could cause the batteries to overheat.

Desktop UPS
-----------------------------
A UPS isn't limited to running your computer. Forget the computer and it can run your modem or wifi router and cellphone charger for much longer.

Portable USB Solar Panels
-----------------------------
They're not the best bang-for-buck but they work and there's not much to go wrong. Just plug your phone or powerbank into the solar panel and place it in the sun.

Traditional Solar Power
Solar panel + charge controller + deep cycle battery and you have a traditional solar setup. Add a DC to AC inverter for powering household items.

Deep Cycle Battery + Smart Charger
-----------------------------
The best bang for buck off-grid power storage is deep cycle batteries paired with a high amperage smart charger. When your house has power, the batteries are being charged. When there's a blackout, you pull power from your batteries.
