At APHA science plays a vital role in how we safeguard animal and plant health. Whether it’s identifying and controlling outbreaks of notifiable disease; facilitating international trade; or our research in areas such as avian influenza and bovine TB, all our work is underpinned by scientific principles and rigour.

Here Nigel Semmence from the National Bee Unit talks about the Asian hornet, and APHA’s work to prevent the spread of this non-native species and protect bee health.

If you think you have seen an Asian hornet, please notify the Great British Non-Native Species Secretariat by emailing alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can report sightings via their website: http://www.nonnativespecies.org/home/

Beekeepers can find more information about the Asian hornet on the National Bee Unit’s website: http://www.nationalbeeunit.com

The ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ app is available to download from the Apple and Android app stores.
