Up until last year she was recording under simply her first name. “I came into the industry young,” she said in an interview with NPR. “I definitely don’t feel like I was fully able to be the most authentic expression of myself. So SAYGRACE to me was really to me a way to take back the control and to direct the narrative myself.” Maybe the best thing about that G Eazy cover was how conveniently foreshadowed her current ethos. Under the revised moniker, SAYGRACE is droppin’ piercing anti-whack-dude anthems and pulling remixes from Becky G. “Boys Ain’t Shit” is already getting tons of love online, and her cover of Kanye’s “Violent Crimes” is a vibe.
