Boris Johnson has faced the House of Commons for the first time since his government's defeat in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. There were bad-tempered exchanges as the UK Prime Minister claimed that the judges had been wrong to "pronounce on a political question at a time of great national controversy".

The UK's highest court ruled unanimously that Mr Johnson had acted unlawfully when he suspended Parliament for five weeks. The Prime Minister also rejected the Labour Party’s calls for him to resign and challenged opposition parties to agree to a general election.

We also report on how the automotive and retails industries have contradicted the government’s claims that they are ready for a no-deal Brexit.

Presented by Huw Edwards with reports from Laura Kuenssberg, John Pienaar, Faisal Islam and Lucy Manning.

Produced for the BBC News at Ten.
