He lifted her white veil, kissed her on both cheeks and whispered "I love you very, very much."

This is not a scene from a movie but a real-life sequence from the Christmas Day wedding of Fernando Poe, Jr. and Susan Roces at the Sanctuario de San Jose in Greenhills, Mandaluyong on December 25, 1968 .....

Here is an account written by movie writer and TV host Joe Quirino:

The wedding rites started at 7;30 a.m.
The groom, in a cream-colored suit was the first to arrive at quarter to seven.

At 7:06 a.m. Susan arrived accompanied by her father aboard a Cadillac.
The bride wore a Pitoy Moreno creation with a Christmas motif.
A white hood flowed into a train of white French lace, bordered with pearls and beads.

At the altar where Ronnie was waiting, Susan kissed her father then took the hand of Ronnie after which both marched to the altar with the accompaniment of the La Consolacion sisters singing "De Colores".

The double-ring ceremony followed.

After the two exchanged "I do's", Ronnie lifted Susan's veil, planted a kiss on both cheeks and said in a stage whisper: "I love you very, very much".
Susan replied "Same here".

As the two stepped out of church, fans of the couple, considered the King and Queen of Philippine Movies, showered them with rice.

The Cadillac then whisked them to the reception at the Presidential Hall of the Plaza Restaurant in Makati, Rizal.

At the reception, singer Ric Manrique sang the theme song from "Ang Daigdig Ko'y Ikaw", the first movie in which Susan & Ronnie co-starred.
It was after this movie that the two formally got engaged.

The wedding capped a three-year storybook romance that had the movie scribes guessing for some time.

When the two finally got married in a civil ceremony before Valenzuela Mayor Gerry Angeles last December 16, everybody was caught by surprise.

Three weeks before the two had their civil marriage ceremony, they had a quarrel.
Susan returned the P18,000 diamond ring which Ronnie had given her.

It was only last December 15 that the two reconciled while acting as sponsors in a basketball game at the Loyola Center.
They had a long talk and by the early morning of December 16, they decided to motor to Valenzuela, Bulacan where they had their civil marriage.

After the reception, the two left for their honeymoon in Tokyo, Japan."

Lyrics:

I thought of you the other day
How worlds of change led us astray
Colors seem to fade to gray
In the wake of yesterday...

You looked into my eyes
You had me hypnotized
And I can still remember you

I had a dream of you and I
A thousand stars lit up the sky
I touched your hand and you were gone
But memories of you live on...

You looked into my eyes
You had me hypnotized
And I can still remember you

Those moments spent together
Promising forever
And I can still remember you

Do you ever think of me
And get lost in the memory
When you do, I hope you smile
And hold that memory a while...

To the fans of DA KING & DA QUEEN: A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PEACEFUL NEW YEAR !
