The Rolling Stones kicked off their 17-date North American tour in Los Angeles marking 50 years in the music business.

It's the biggest tour by the Stones in six years and follows a handful of dates in London, Paris and New York at the end of 2012.

Die-hard Rolling Stones fans waited outside the Staples Center for their beloved band to hit the stage, explaining why the British rockers were still so loved after all these years.

SOUNDBITE: Cliff Benjamin, Rolling Stones fan, saying (English):

"Because they're awesome. They're pros at what they do, they're the real thing. They've always been the real thing, they don't pretend."

The Rolling Stones last went on the road from 2005 to 2007, playing 144 shows globally and grossing more than $550 million U.S. dollars -- one of the music world's most lucrative tours.
