On the anniversary of Woodstock, The New Yorker takes a close look at the music festival's impact on pop culture. In 1969, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld, and Michael Lang founded Woodstock Ventures, Inc. to host a music festival. The lineup included Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, and Jefferson Airplane. A year later, the world got to see the debauchery in an Oscar-winning documentary.
