Robert Nesta Marley, known across the globe as Bob Marley, was the first and debatably only superstar ever to emerge from the third world. He rose from eager rural beginnings and blossomed into a man of such significance and influence that his attempted assassination in 1976 turned out to be politically motivated. Bob’s musical influence is still felt all around the world today, but he was more than just a musician - he had a universal such quality in his messages that transcended race, colour, economic and class.

This documentary explores the life of one of the 20th century’s most charismatic and challenging performers. Bob Marley’s renown now transcends the role of reggae luminary: he is regarded as a cultural icon who implored his people to know their history.

Wachsfiguren von ABBA bei Madame Tussauds, Wien (2013)
ABBA erhielt in neun aufeinander folgenden Jahren (1974–1982) von der Jugendzeitschrift Bravo einen Bravo Otto in der Kategorie „Band“, erreichte bei der Bravo-Leserwahl aber nie den ersten Platz („Goldener Otto“).

„Silberner Otto“ (2. Platz): 1974, 1978, 1979, 1980 und 1982.
„Bronzener Otto“ (3. Platz): 1975, 1976, 1977 und 1981.
Am 18. April 1977 nahm ABBA an einer Gala zum Frühlingsfest der Zeitung Expressen teil und bekam eine „Goldene Wespe“ für die 1976 gedrehte Fernsehdokumentation ABBA-DABBA-Doo! überreicht, die vom Publikum zur besten Sendung des Jahres gewählt worden war.

1983 wurde in Schweden ein Briefmarkenblock Musik i Sverige herausgegeben, in dem auch eine Briefmarke mit einem Motiv von ABBA enthalten ist, das die Band auf einer Bühne vor jubelndem Publikum zeigt. Das Motiv basiert auf einem Foto von Anders Hanser, das dieser am 18. September 1979 bei einem Konzert in Portland (Oregon) (USA) aufgenommen hat. Eine weitere Briefmarke mit einem Motiv von ABBA erschien in Schweden im März 2000. Das Thema dieser Briefmarke ist die musikalische Entwicklung – speziell beim Eurovision Song Contest (damals noch Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson). Auf der Briefmarke ist ABBA in den Kostümen von 1974 einer jungen Künstlerin im „New Wave/Techno-Outfit“ gegenübergestellt.

2002 wurde ABBA in die Vocal Group Hall of Fame in Sharon (Pennsylvania, USA) aufgenommen, die die besten Gesangsgruppen der Welt ehrt.

Am 23. Januar 2009 nahmen Fältskog und Lyngstad gemeinsam in Stockholm den Preis Rockbjörnen („Rock-Bär“) entgegen, der der Popgruppe für ihr Lebenswerk von der schwedischen Zeitung Aftonbladet verliehen wurde.

2010 wurde ABBA in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen.

Im September 2012 wurden von Madame Tussauds vier Wachsfiguren von ABBA angefertigt. Dabei tragen die Figuren jene Outfits, mit denen die Gruppe 1975 im Rahmen der Promotion-Tour für ihr drittes Album ABBA aufgetreten war. Seit Oktober 2012 waren sie in London zu sehen. Im Januar 2013 wanderten die Figuren weiter nach Wien, wo sie sich bis Mitte März befanden. Vom 20. April 2013 an waren die Figuren zwei Monate in Berlin ausgestellt. Ende April 2015 übersiedelten die Figuren erneut für drei Monate nach Wien, wo sie im Rahmen einer Song-Contest-Sonderausstellung zu sehen waren.

This audio is sourced from the deluxe edition of the 'On Air' boxset released in 2016 and a tape close to the master which contains the best quality recording of the 'lost intro' (see below for more info). This was first released on the CD release 'Queen At The Beeb' in 1989 in edited form and was originally recorded on December 3rd, 1973.

Queen's third BBC Radio session was recorded on December 3, 1973 at Langham 1 Studio in London. The session was produced by Bernie Andrews and engineered by Nick Griffiths. BBC Radio 1 broadcast the session on John Peel's Sounds Of The 70s on December 6, 1973. Unlike some of their other sessions the band did not use any existing backing tracks, instead they opted to record all new versions in Langham 1. Queen II was still four months away from release when this session was aired, so Ogre Battle served as a nice preview of what was to come. The full version of this take included a guitar solo at the beginning. For the release of At The Beeb and At The BBC, the beginning intro is edited off because the BBC tape was damaged at that point in the song. In 2016, On Air was release and it featured a partially restored guitar intro.

Thanks to brianswig on QueenZone for transferring his tape as it contains the best quality copy of the missing intro take. This missing piece had been circulating for years in many bootlegs but the quality was always dreadful, as the coopies were all taken from tapes that were very distant from the master tape. This new tape however brings so much more clarity and less distortion and we are finally able to tell that this is a seperate take from the one which would later appear on the 1989 and 2016 CDs. There is an aubible cut/stop in the tape and an audio engineer can be heard, possibly informing Brian that the new recording has started.

21. Besame Mucho - - recognized in 1999 as the most sung and recorded Mexican song in the world. Written in 1940. The title translates as ‘kiss me a lot’. EMI Artist Test (The Beatles audition for George Martin) on June 6 1962 with Pete Best on drums.

22. Love Me Do - Probably written in 1958 - debut single. Three different recorded versions of the song by the Beatles have been released, each with a different drummer. This version with Best on Drums(previously thought to be lost) is available on Anthology 1.

23. How Do You Do It - 1st released on this album.

24. Please Please Me - Rolling Stone #184 on 500 Greatest Songs. McCartney and Lennon initially share the vocals with McCartney holding a high note while Lennon drops down through the scale, a ploy they learned from the Everly Brothers.

25. One After 909 (sequence) - (Takes 3, 4 & 5)

26. One After 909 (complete) - (Takes 4 & 5) - The Beatles recorded a cover, with Lennon and Harrison dueting on the verses and McCartney singing the middle eight, in July 1963 at the BBC Studios in London.

28. I'll Get You - (live on Sunday Night at the London Palladium) - Lennon and McCartney sing in unison for the majority of the track, allowing the few occasions when they do harmonies to stand out.

30. I Saw Her Standing There - (live for The Beatles, Pop Group from Liverpool Visiting Stockholm). Anthology 1 album contains songs recorded in 24 October 1963 at the Karlaplansstudion in Stockholm, Sweden. This show was broadcast live on Swedish National Radio on 11 November that year.

The english entrepreneur and network-builder interviewed on his 1976 court case in which, as an artist, he was theatened to become a "non-representative person" and set under arrest by the UK-government.

This rarely edited 1986 version is from the lost archives of Genesis P. Orridge who's message from then is even more actual in times of the msm propaganda and the internet.

Session 4, Track 2. Recorded at Langham One Studio, London, on 3 April 1974.
This version is identical to the album version, fading out as 'Funny How Love Is' begins. Sources suggest that either Queen ran out of studio time and were unable to record a fourth track, or that they were unhappy with what they did record, so the album version was broadcast instead. This means that possibly the track was recorded but not broadcast, but if so then it is likely to have been lost as the BBC tapes were destroyed many years ago. This does, however, seem an unlikely track to attempt to record, given it's length and complexity, and Queen never recreated it on stage in full. 'Father To Son' or 'Seven Seas Of Rhye' would have been a more logical choice and would both have been far easier to perform.

By creating the first Contemporary Title Noir for Hugo Blick's conspiracy drama The Shadow Line, aired on BBC2 from May 5th 2011. Peter Anderson Studio yet again demonstrated their unfaltering ability to innovate. The sequence reveals the journey of the bullet through the view of the rifle laser sight taking the viewer to the very last moment of the seven hours drama. The atmosphere of the journey sets the tone of the programme. The typography has been created using the texture of a main character's jacket, that slowly reveals itself episode by episode in a typical example of our in depth approach to storytelling.

This is the best version of the song in my opinion, converting a good song into a great one. It has a frantic quality, sharply contrasting with the melodious quieter sections. The song was written by Mick Ralphs and lyrics are included in the video. The version only appears in the Original Mixed Up Kids album (pictured), along with other BBC session songs.

BBC Knowledge and Learning is exploring a wide variety of topics from social history to science in a series of three-minute online Explainer documentaries, and commissioned Territory Studio (www.territorystudio.com) to produce an animated film on the subject of DNA.

As Will Samuel, lead designer and animator on the project explains, the approach taken wasn't just to look into a scientific future. "We needed to find a graphic style to communicate the beauty and intricacy of DNA. We wanted to create nostalgia; taking the audience back to the days of textbook diagrams and old science documentaries, such as Carl Sagan's COSMOS and IBM's POWER OF TEN (1977). Using the double helix circular theme as a core design we focused on form, movement and colour to create a consistent flow to the animation, drawing on references from nature, illustrating how DNA is the core to everything around us."

Three minutes is a short time to explore a subject where most doctorates only scratch the surface, so writer Andrew S. Walsh teamed up with molecular biologist Dr Matthew Adams to distil the script down to the most fundamental elements required to understand not only DNA's form and function but how our understanding of these discoveries has affected the wider world. While this length may feel restrictive, the team found that this limitation acted as a lens, focusing the piece on the essentials.

The Explainer series is designed to intrigue and inform, encouraging those who discover the documentaries to further explore through links to additional information found on the BBC website.

Starting with the national weather, then teasers from Nationwide, and then the beginning of the last txm of Look NorthWest from this studio in Broadcasting House, Piccadilly, Manchester - 15th May 1981. To move to Studio B, New Broadcasting House, Oxford Rd, Manchester the following Monday - 18th May 1981 (txm to be uploaded to YT soon!)

During the txm there was a 16 minute segment of the history of Broadcasting House (to be uploaded eventually to YT - unfortunately the segment was not well constructed and is rather boring to be honest).

The very final txm from Studio N was actually the following day - Sports NorthWest, presented by David Davies and John Mundy (also on YT). The last voice to be heard from Studio N and Broadcasting House, Manchester, was David Davies.

Broadcasting House was leased in the 1920s from a Bank, which was on the ground floor. It consisted of a number of radio studios, a newsroom, bar, canteen, Central Apparatus Room (CAR), Radio Manchester and TV Studios N and P. Also, up in the attic was a standby AM transmitter. There were also several bedrooms where staff could sleep overnight, ready for an early call to work, which I once took the opportunity of using.

The place was lavishly decorated with highly-polished brass, tiling, and a lift from a bygone era with concertina doors.

One of a few short films I made, of the last days of BBC Television Centre, during my final days working there. This one shows Studio 5 (TC5), once home to Top Of The Pops and Match Of The Day.

BBC Spotlight (the regional news programme for the South West of England) de-camped from their main studio for a refurbishment in March 2014 to a temporary studio set up elsewhere in the building.

It took longer than expected to complete what was a major upgrade to the building as a whole, after having abandoned plans to move to a new site in Plymouth City Centre.

Almost 18 months later, the programme said goodbye to its 'temporary home' in good style by turning off the lights in this edition. What followed was a promo video for the new studio.

I've added a comparison of their old/new logos at the end.

Sadly, many of Belinda's email notices about the demo were 'returned by the postmaster', so she wasn't able to reach many of Hollie's supporters for this recent demo. However some hardy supporters braved the cold and were there to answer the many questions from the passing public as we handed out leaflets which the public were noticeably ASKING for as they passed by! This indicates a sway in the public realisation that Paedophilia and the ensuing cover ups can no longer be ignored. There is know doubt that sympathy and understanding of and for Hollie's cause is growing in public awareness as people are indeed joining the dots.

This, despite the efforts of the Hollie detractors, strangely enough seem to be mostly women who verbally protect evil men and their perversions. Why would that be? One called Latex Lillie, her name speaks volumes! They seem determined to protect the main perpetrators -- paedophiles, Denis and Greg Mackie. In so doing they reveal a concerted effort to attempt to create damage and diversions by trying to harm the reputations of good people who are fighting to expose these perverts!

The Jimmy Savile child rape - abuse revelations and related failed police enquiries is a serious issue as in the non-investigation of the Hollie Greg case. During the Savile and Bryn Estyn cover-ups, police and media compliance played a major part, it could NEVER have remained concealed without their support. Savile was protected for 60 years! Hollie's case is a similar high-level cover-up, in Scotland, as represented by the story of its victim and whistleblower, a 33 year-old Down's Syndrome woman.

In 2000, having fled their home, Hollie reported to her mother, Anne, that she had been raped throughout her childhood by her father Denis Mackie and brother Greg (already abused), now protecting his abuser. Classic profile of an abused victim is to protect the abuser with misplaced loyalty. The eminent psychologist Dr Jack Boyle, who spent many hours with Hollie, said she would NEVER have told her mother Anne of the abuse, had they not left their home and had she not felt safe, having been told by her mother they would not be going back to the home they shared with her brother and father. Hollie told Dr Boyle her father had threatened that he would kill her mother and her pet dogs if she told 'ANYONE' about what was going on. This is the threat that always loomed over her and the only reason she made the revelation, was that the dogs had been left in the family home with the perpetrators, she feared they would be killed. Hollie also revealed to Dr Boyle that in later years her father provided her to some 20 other individuals in Aberdeen over period of a 'many years,' this was not gang rape as is falsely claimed, all of whom she named to Grampian police. These individuals when asked in a Stone Haven Court admitted they had never been interviewed or investigated (this is also in the PCC report), despite the police having obtained physical confirmation of the abuse. Abusers always threaten their victims as can be seen in the Savile and Bryn Estyn cases, the police treat the victims as liars and a cover-up ensues . Shoot the messenger/s, classic.

Denis Mackie had bragged constantly to people that he could get his wife sectioned "just like that!" He had a history of documented violence against Anne with police intervention, and threatened her ,every time she said she was going to divorce him, " if you ever try to leave me, I will say you are off your head and take the kids". Relatives have now come forward and told the story of how over many years, he had been undermining Anne's character behind her back. Problem - reaction - solution which as we now see was in preparation for his future plans. Investigations are still under way. Women who suffer domestic violence know only too well this scenario, and will identify with this story. Mental health has long been used as a tool for character assassination and social control, a practise well-known in the Soviet Union, less commonly known in the West. In 2008/9 the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority awarded Hollie a substantial sum for the physical damage and mental trauma she has suffered.

BBC SCOTLAND are implicated here, having made preparation for a documentary on Hollie and Anne's story in 2009 which was virtually 'pulled' on the eve of being shown and never subsequently aired. Furthermore, it was promised at the time, after being shown in Scotland, the documentary would also be shown as a BBC UK Panorama programme, which again did not happen. It is now evident this is a pattern the BBC work to. Could it be the BBC "investigate" cases to glean what the story is and how to cover it up? This undermines the victims, as is the case in the Steve Messham story with vitriolic character assassination by the media

Synopsis

Behind-the-scenes archive documentary following Queen's Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon as they record their sixth album News of the World and embark on a groundbreaking tour of North America.

By 1977, Queen had become a major headlining act in the UK, releasing chart-topping albums and singles as well as playing sell-out concerts in all the country's major venues. However, they were facing an increasingly hostile music press, who had a new favourite in punk and had turned against the elaborate, multi-layered recording techniques that had become the hallmark of the band's previous albums.

But an unfazed Queen had their sights set on greater things. As the band announced plans to record their next album, the expectation was it would be another production extravaganza, but Freddie, Brian, Roger and John already had other ideas. News of the World showcased them at their most raw, simple and best, returning to their roots as a live act. With a self-imposed limit on studio time and produced entirely on their own for the first time, this stripped-back album took the fans and press by surprise and demonstrated Queen's ability to transcend fashions. It was to prove a seminal moment in the band's history.

At the time, BBC music presenter Bob Harris was given exclusive and extensive access to the band to cover this period. Conducting insightful interviews with all four band members as well as filming them at work in the studio as they were planning and rehearsing their forthcoming North American tour, and then following them as they performed across the US, Bob captured a band attempting to replicate their huge domestic success on the global stage. Curiously, the documentary he set out to make was never completed, and the footage lay unused in the archive until now.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the release of the News of the World album, the footage has now been carefully restored and revisited to compile this hour-long portrait of a group setting out to take the next step on their remarkable journey to becoming one of the biggest bands on the planet. Armed with an array of new songs, including the monster hits We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, Queen dazzled the American audience and laid the foundations of a relationship that endures to this very day.

Bread was an American soft rock band from Los Angeles, California. They placed 13 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1970 and 1977.

The band consisted of David Gates (vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, violin, viola, percussion), Jimmy Griffin (vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion) and Robb Royer (bass guitar, guitar, flute, keyboards, percussion, recorder, backing vocals). On their first album session musicians Ron Edgar played drums and Jim Gordon played drums, percussion, and piano. Mike Botts became their permanent drummer when he joined in the summer of 1969, and Larry Knechtel replaced Royer in 1971, playing keyboards, bass guitar, guitar, and harmonica.

This is footage of the band recording the BBC version It's Late in the studio.

This was shot by the Bob Harris crew for their upcoming documentary of the band in December of 1977, however, the documentary footage was shelved and was never used. This footage was later used in the Rock The World 2017 documentary.

I have tried my best to isolate the backing vocals as that is what the band is recording here.

The aerodrome at Dunsfold Park in Surrey is infamous as the home of BBC's Top Gear test track and studios. However, the park now has another claim to fame; Dunsfold Park has become one of the nation's only business parks to be fed entirely on 'green energy'.

The project was developed by Lightsource Renewable Energy Ltd with funding provided by Octopus Investments. Under the agreement, Dunsfold Aerodrome lease Lightsource the required land for the solar installation and in return receive unlimited use of the electricity generated as Lightsource recoups its investment through the associated feed-in tariff income.

Matthew North talks to Alex Dyke about a recently discovered studio audio tape of Billy Cotton's Music-Hall, from Sat 26 August 1967, featuring a guest appearance by Scott Walker. This was his first appearance on BBC TV (or any TV channel) as a solo artist and he sang 2 songs, 'More' and 'My Death'. Sadly, the show is lost visually, but you can now listen to the audio of this show here, for the first time in over 50 years.

The last transmission of Look Northwest, the North West of England's BBC regional news programme, from Studio N, Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester was the previous Friday. Look Northwest continued years later as Northwest Tonight in Studio B until 2011, when it moved to Media City in Salford..

Here we see the national weather followed by a teaser from Nationwide in Studio E, Lime Grove, London, before the regions opt-out of network and present their own news programmes. This is the first North West news programme from the newly built Studio B in New Broadcasting House, Oxford Road, Manchester.

Look Northwest was the third programme to be broadcast from Studio B - the lunchtime and afternoon news were the first and second programmes. The studio had what is called a saturated lighting grid which is the norm in most if not all BBC TV studios. ITV studios use an ad hoc lighting grid where lights are placed where needed.

I don't think the production team were happy with the new set as it changed relatively quickly. For the cameramen it did feel it was not suited to the 4:3 television format, but would suit the 16:9 of the present day quite well. The cameras used were brand new Philips LDK 25 which gave pretty good pictures except for comet-tailing - for some reason the OB version, used in the North Region, the LDK 5, didn't exhibit this yet used the same tubes and electronics.

Studio B went on to produce all manner of local and network programmes, including breakfast programmes. It was reasonably large and never felt cramped. It also had an annexe where programmes could have an extension to their floor plan. This was at the north end of the studio, ran across the width of it and as it had direct access to Studio B and a simple lighting grid cameras could be pushed into it and used there. To the east of the annexe was a self-op studio, Studio C, where the regional presenters introduced and ran the weekly regional 30 minute opt-out. This was a smallish room with a vision and audio desk, but no cameras. To the west of the annexe was a lighting store.

Eventually the annexe was converted into a full studio (Studio D) and used by programmes that needed little floor space or couldn't afford Studio B e.g. Religion.

Many kids in Africa want to be musicians after school, but don't know where to start, so our reporter Christine Njeri in the Kenyan capital Nairobi went to meet some girls who study music. She asked them to share their burning questions about the music industry. One thing these girls DIDN'T know, though, is who was going to answer their questions. You can see how they felt when they realised it's the one and only Sauti Sol!

Tårene begynte å renne da Sigrid Raabe (20) satt i et BBC-studio og hørte sin egen låt på radio for første gang. «Don´t kill my vibe» ble kåret til den «hotteste låta i verden» da den hadde premiere på BBC for litt over to uker siden.

Tårene begynte å presse på

– Jeg husker da Mr. Jam på BBC Radio 1 spilte låta for første gang. Det var ganske sykt. Da refrenget kom begynte tårene å presse på. De tre minuttene gikk veldig fort. Så begynte de tre fra Island Records også å få tårer i øynene. Alle begynte å grine. Det ble en klemmerunde og det var veldig koselig, sier Sigrid der hun sitter ved flygelet i studioet til produsent og låtskriver Martin Sjølie.

Sigrid skynder seg å legge til at det var gledestårene som kom, men det førte til at produsenten for radioshowet måtte spørre om hun var klar til å begynne å snakke igjen fordi hun snart skulle på lufta.

Arctic Monkeys - 505 live BBC Radio 1 Studio

BBC Studio N, Manchester was the North West of England's news studio in Piccadilly, Manchester until 1981 when it moved to NBH, Oxford Road, Manchester.

In May 1981 I decided to take my portable JVC VHS recorder in to the studio and record for posterity a few elements, and I'm glad I did. Here, at lunchtime when everyone was away I switched the lights on, panned a couple of them on to the subject (OK there is a camera shadow at one point), set the iris and black level for an average shot and let the video AGC of the recorder do the rest :)

The EMI 2001 cameras were not to be moved to the new Studio B in New Broadcasting House, Oxford Road, Manchester, but from what I remember sold on to either that great TV junk yard in Birmingham, or to Nigeria, which the BBC had a connection with, as noticed on courses at BBC Wood Norton Training Centre, Evesham, where a number of students were Nigerian.

This video gives a short tour of the EMI 2001 broadcast camera - the sound is mute. In the 70s there were three 2001s in this small studio, but shortly before the move there were four! 'Nationwide' was broadcast from this studio for a week, when it did a short tour of being broadcast from the regions one year - space was then very tight!

The head amplifiers of the four plumbicon tubes (red, green, blue and luminance) were the valve version using the E88CC valve. The zoom lens, which slots into the body of the camera i.e. doesn't hang off the front of it, is the usual 10:1 for this 625-line camera (there were 525-line NTSC versions used in the States), giving a maximum wide angle of 50 degrees. The cameras are mounted on Fulmer peds.

The EMI 2001 was first produced in 1966 and introduced into many BBC studios and OB units from 1968. Also several ITV companies purchased or leased the camera. The camera had the artifact of comet tails, produced where very bright lights were in the frame. Top of the Pops recordings are a good example of these.

The video was recorded on JVCs first portable VHS recorder, by plugging the output of the 2001 camera into the video-in socket. The picture quality on the VHS tape is much better than that shown on YouTube.
