Trung Quốc phô diễn sức mạnh hải quân với loạt tàu khu trục thế hệ mới vào hôm thứ Ba, 23/4/2019.

Chủ tịch Tập Cận Bình đã tới duyệt cuộc trình diễn hải quân hùng hậu nhân dịp 70 năm thành lập hải quân Trung Quốc, diễn ra ở khu vực biển ngoài khơi cảng Thanh Đảo, tỉnh Sơn Đông.

Cuộc duyệt binh trên biển có sự góp mặt của cả hàng không mẫu hạm Liêu Ninh, niềm tự hào của hải quân nước này.

Sự kiện này có sự tham gia của 32 tàu và 39 phi cơ Trung Quốc, cùng tàu chiến từ 13 quốc gia khác, trong đó có Ấn Độ, Nhật Bản, Việt Nam và Úc.

1619 marks the year of the first documented arrival of enslaved Africans in what’s today the United States of America. The West African country of Ghana – which was a major hub during the transatlantic slave trade - declared 2019 the year of return and is encouraging the African diaspora to visit the country. According to the country’s tourism board from January to June this year, there was a 20 per cent increase in the number of Americans visiting the country and an 11 per cent increase in visitors from the UK. But some young African Americans have decided to return for good.

Andor Stern é o único brasileiro nato a sobreviver ao campo de concentração que virou símbolo da "Solução Final da Questão Judaica", de Adolf Hitler. Neste documentário da BBC News Brasil, Andor Stern relata os momentos trágicos que enfrentou principalmente no último ano da Segunda Guerra Mundial quando foi deportado com sua família para o campo. Viu sua mãe e outros parentes serem levados para a câmara de gás do infame campo e só foi poupado para ser usado no trabalho escravo a que prisioneiros eram submetidos. On 3 June 2016 the first patient in the End-OSA research study was started on her Endobarrier treatment. The aim is to see if the weight loss associated with Endobarrier treatment allows some patients to no longer require their CPAP overnight ventilation treatment which would be of great benefit to the patient and to the NHS. The patients also have diabetes or pre-diabetes and those problems will also be helped. The study is funded by the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) and is the second Endobarrier study that they are supporting the first being REVISE-Diabesity (https://youtu.be/xRcnMBOdb58 ). This news item was broadcast on 27 June 2016. Chief Investigator of the study is diabetologist, Dr Bob Ryder, and the ABCD research fellow who leads the study is Dr Mahi Yadagiri. The gastroenterologists who insert the Endobarriers are Dr Mark Anderson and Dr Ed Fogden and the anaesthetist who ensures comfort during the procedure is Dr John Bleasdale. समाजवादी पार्टी प्रमुख अखिलेश यादव से जब ये पूछा गया कि वो CAA और NRC विरोधी प्रदर्शनों में क्यों नज़र नहीं आ रहे, तो इस पर वो कुछ भड़क गए. उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसा कहना गलत होगा. उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि उनकी पार्टी उत्तर प्रदेश में अब किसी के साथ गठबंधन नहीं करेगी. बीबीसी न्यूज़ हिंदी से ख़ास बातचीत में अखिलेश यादव ने कहा, "समाजवादी पार्टी किसी दल के साथ नहीं खड़ी होगी." अखिलेश ने और समाजवादी पार्टी ने 15 जनवरी को बहुजन समाज पार्टी प्रमुख मायावती को जन्मदिन के मौक़े पर ट्विटर पर बधाई दी थी. मगर उनकी बधाई का मायावती की तरफ़ से कोई जवाब नहीं आया. इस बारे में पूछे जाने पर अखिलेश ने कहा, "मेरा व्यवहार है, मुझे बधाई देनी चाहिए थी. उन्होंने जवाब नहीं दिया तो भी मुझे तो अच्छा लगा कि अब अगली बार से बधाई नहीं देंगे." पिछले साल इस मौक़े पर अखिलेश यादव ने व्यक्तिगत रूप से जाकर मायावती से मुलाक़ात की थी.

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया में नागरिकता संशोधन बिल के विरोध में स्टूडेंट्स का विरोध प्रदर्शन. पुलिस ने स्टूडेंट्स पर लाठीचार्ज किया और आंसू गैस के गोले छोड़े. लाठीचार्ज में कई स्टूडेंट्स घायल हुए हैं. इस दौरान 50 से ज़्यादा छात्रों को हिरासत में भी लिया गया.

अयोध्या में मंदिर और मस्जिद विवाद पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के फ़ैसले पर पाकिस्तान से भी प्रतिक्रिया आ रही है. शनिवार को भारत के सुप्रीम कोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश जस्टिस रंजन गोगोई की अध्यक्षता वाली पाँच जजों की बेंच ने सर्वसम्मति से विवादित ज़मीन पर फ़ैसला रामलला के पक्ष में सुनाया और मुस्लिम पक्ष को अलग पाँच एकड़ ज़मीन मस्जिद के लिए देने का निर्देश दिया है. इस फ़ैसले पर भारत में सभी पक्षों से सधी और संतुलित प्रतिक्रिया आ रही है लेकिन पाकिस्तान से आक्रामक प्रतिक्रिया आई है.

समाजवादी पार्टी प्रमुख अखिलेश यादव से जब ये पूछा गया कि वो CAA और NRC विरोधी प्रदर्शनों में क्यों नज़र नहीं आ रहे, तो इस पर वो कुछ भड़क गए. उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसा कहना गलत होगा. उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि उनकी पार्टी उत्तर प्रदेश में अब किसी के साथ गठबंधन नहीं करेगी. बीबीसी न्यूज़ हिंदी से ख़ास बातचीत में अखिलेश यादव ने कहा, "समाजवादी पार्टी किसी दल के साथ नहीं खड़ी होगी." अखिलेश ने और समाजवादी पार्टी ने 15 जनवरी को बहुजन समाज पार्टी प्रमुख मायावती को जन्मदिन के मौक़े पर ट्विटर पर बधाई दी थी. मगर उनकी बधाई का मायावती की तरफ़ से कोई जवाब नहीं आया. इस बारे में पूछे जाने पर अखिलेश ने कहा, "मेरा व्यवहार है, मुझे बधाई देनी चाहिए थी. उन्होंने जवाब नहीं दिया तो भी मुझे तो अच्छा लगा कि अब अगली बार से बधाई नहीं देंगे." पिछले साल इस मौक़े पर अखिलेश यादव ने व्यक्तिगत रूप से जाकर मायावती से मुलाक़ात की थी.

已執政四年的台灣總統蔡英文在剛剛結束的2020年台灣大選中，以高票贏得連任。她對中國大陸持更加強硬的態度，被視為是她贏得選舉的重要因素。

蔡英文在連任後接受BBC記者沙磊（John Sudworth）的專訪，就此次大選和兩岸關係等議題表達看法，這也是她勝選後首次接受媒體專訪。

अमरीका ने 3 जनवरी को बगद़ाद हवाई अड्डे के पास ड्रोन से एक हवाई हमला कर ईरान के अल-क़ुद्स फ़ोर्स के प्रमुख क़ासिम सुलेमानी को मार डाला. ख़ुफ़िया सूत्रों ने अमरीका मीडिया को बताया है कि ये ऑपरेशन सीधे-सीधे राष्ट्रपति डोनल्ड ट्रंप के आदेश पर हुआ और इसकी पूरी तैयारी की गई थी. बताया जा रहा है कि सुलेमानी कुछ वक़्त पहले ही इराक़ पहुंचे थे और दो गाड़ियों के काफ़िले में चल रहे थे जिसमें ईरान समर्थित इराक़ी सेना के लोग भी सवार थे. बीबीसी की मीडिया मॉनिटरिंग सर्विस, बीबीसी मॉनिटरिंग के मुताबिक शुरुआत में ईरानी टीवी चैनलों ने ख़बर चलाई कि अमरीकी सेना के हेलिकॉप्टर्स के ज़रिए इराक़ में इस हमले को अंज़ाम दिया गया है. हालांकि अमरीकी मीडिया का कहना है कि ये हमला मानवरहित एयरक्राफ्ट एमक्यू-9 रीपर के जरिए हुआ. यह एक ड्रोन है जो अधिकतम 480 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे की रफ़्तार से उड़ान भर सकता है.

8 जनवरी 2020 के शुरुआती घंटों में ईरान ने क़रीब दो दर्जन बैलिस्टिक मिसाइलों से इराक़ में स्थित दो अमरीकी कैंपों को निशाना बनाया और कहा कि ये हमले कमांडर जनरल क़ासिम सुलेमानी की हत्या का बदला लेने के लिए किए गए. सुलेमानी बीते शुक्रवार इराक़ के बग़दाद शहर में अमरीकी ड्रोन हमले में मारे गए थे. उनकी मौत के बाद ईरान ने कहा था कि अमरीका को इसकी भारी क़ीमत चुकानी होगी. लेकिन ईरान की ओर से दी गई उग्र चेतावनियों के बावजूद अमरीका का कोई सैनिक आहत नहीं हुआ. अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति डोनल्ड ट्रंप ने अपने बयान में इसकी पुष्टि की है. तो क्या ईरान ने जानबूझकर अमरीकी कैंपों में तैनात सैनिकों को बचा दिया? ईरान के इस्लामिक रेवॉल्यूशनरी गार्ड्स कॉर्प्स (IRGC) ने कहा है कि ईरान ने बुधवार को सतह से सतह पर मार करने वाली क़रीब बीस मिसाइलें छोड़ी थीं जिन्होंने इराक़ में अमरीकी कब्ज़े वाले अल-असद कैंप को निशाना बनाया.

On 3 June 2016 the first patient in the End-OSA research study was started on her Endobarrier treatment. The aim is to see if the weight loss associated with Endobarrier treatment allows some patients to no longer require their CPAP overnight ventilation treatment which would be of great benefit to the patient and to the NHS. The patients also have diabetes or pre-diabetes and those problems will also be helped. The study is funded by the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) and is the second Endobarrier study that they are supporting the first being REVISE-Diabesity (https://youtu.be/xRcnMBOdb58 ). ईरान और अमरीका के बीच लंबे समय से चल रहा तनाव बीते हफ़्ते और बढ़ गया. ईरान के जनरल क़ासिम सुलेमानी को अमरीका ने एक हवाई हमले में मार दिया था. पलटवार में ईरान ने मंगलवार को इराक़ में अमरीकी सैन्य ठिकानों पर मिसाइल से हमला किया लेकिन कोई नुक़सान नहीं हुआ. दोनों देशों के बीच बढ़े तनाव से मध्य पूर्व में एक बड़ा संकट नज़र आ रहा है. आशंका जताई जा रही है कि अगर युद्ध की स्थिति बनी तो मध्य पूर्व के कई देश इसकी चपेट में आएंगे, जिसका असर पूरी दुनिया पर होगा.

A BBC investigation has found children as young as seven are being groomed to sell sex in one of the world’s largest licensed brothels.

Sex work is legal for women over the age of 18 in Bangladesh, but some women in Daulatdia, 100km from Dhaka, say they were forced into prostitution when they were children.

A children’s charity is trying to help young people escape by offering education from the age of five and a safe house for those who can afford it.

30 years ago 2 remarkable mass movements transported this community to the modern State of Israel and now the festival has once again become recognised, much like the Ethiopian Jews themselves, as an authentic part of the wider Jewish tradition. Thursday marks 70 years to the day since the United States dropped the world's first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later it dropped a second on the city of Nagasaki. The devastation is widely believed to have brought an abrupt end to World War Two - with Japan's surrender. But what about the appalling human cost of the bombing? मलेशिया और भारत में पहले कश्मीर और बाद में एनआरसी-सीएए को लेकर शुरू हुआ गतिरोध और बढ़ता दिख रहा है. मलेशियाई प्रधानमंत्री महातिर मोहम्मद ने जम्मू-कश्मीर का विशेष दर्जा ख़त्म करने और एनआरसी-सीएए पर भारत की कड़ी आलोचना की थी. इसके बाद भारत ने जवाब में मलेशिया से पाम तेल के आयात पर लगभग पाबंदी लगा दी. मलेशिया ने भारत के इस रुख़ को लेकर चिंता जताई है लेकिन प्रधानमंत्री महातिर मोहम्मद ने एक बार फिर से कहा है कि भले उनके देश को वित्तीय नुक़सान उठाना पड़े लेकिन वो 'ग़लत चीज़ों' के ख़िलाफ़ बोलते रहेंगे. पूरी ख़बर जानने के लिए देखिए यह वीडियो.

तुर्की के राष्ट्रपति रेचेप तैय्यप अर्दोआन ने पिछले महीने 24 सितंबर को संयुक्त राष्ट्र की आम सभा को संबोधित करते हुए कश्मीर का मुद्दा उठाया था. राष्ट्रपति अर्दोआन ने कहा कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय पिछले 72 सालों से कश्मीर समस्या का समाधान खोजने में नाकाम रहा है. लेकिन इससे तुर्की को क्या फ़ायदा होने वाला है?

BBC melakukan investigasi selama 11 bulan untuk mengungkap praktik pelacuran gadis-gadis muda berkedok kawin kontrak yang dilakukan beberapa ulama Irak. Praktik ini bahkan secara luas dilakukan di dua tempat paling suci di Irak, yakni Khadimiya di Baghdad dan Karbala.

Kawin kontrak, yang disebut nikah mut'ah dalam hukum Syiah, adalah praktik keagamaan kontroversial yang digunakan untuk melangsungkan pernikahan sementara, di mana sang perempuan mendapatkan bayaran.

Hal tersebut lalu disalahgunakan agar laki-laki dan perempuan dapat melakukan hubungan seks selama jangka waktu tertentu.

Tim BBC Arabic dan Inggris menemui para gadis dan perempuan yang pernah dieksploitasi secara seksual, sekaligus berbincang dengan pria-pria yang membayar para ulama untuk mencarikan mereka "pengantin kontrak". Tim BBC juga merekam pembicaraan dengan para ulama secara rahasia.

Tidak hanya itu, praktik tersebut juga menjadi legitimasi seks dengan anak di bawah umur. Syaratnya hanya satu: tidak boleh ada penetrasi. Apapun selain itu, boleh dilakukan.

Sheikh Salawi, ulama dari Karbala, ditanya oleh reporter investigatif kami - dan direkam menggunakan kamera rahasia - apakah anak perempuan berusia 12 tahun diperbolehkan kawin kontrak?

"Ya, di atas sembilan tahun - tak ada masalah sama sekali. Menurut Syariah tak ada masalah," ujarnya.

Di sisi lain, kawin kontrak dilarang oleh hukum negara Irak dan bahkan Ayatollah Sistani, tokoh Islam Syiah paling senior mengecam praktik tersebut dalam sebuah pernyataan resmi yang berbunyi: "Jika praktik-praktik ini terjadi seperti yang Anda sampaikan, maka kami mengutuknya tanpa syarat. Kawin kontrak tidak diizinkan untuk dijadikan alat memperdagangkan seks yang meremehkan martabat dan kemanusiaan perempuan."

कोरोनावायरस को लेकर लोगों को पहली बार अलर्ट करने वाले चीन के डॉक्टर ली वेनलियांग की भी इसी संक्रमण से मौत हो गई है. जब उन्होंने पहली बार वायरस के बारे में चेतावनी दी थी तो पुलिस ने उन्हें चुप रहने को कहा था.

पाकिस्तान के विदेश मंत्री शाह महमूद क़ुरैशी ने रविवार को कहा कि भारत का नया नागरिकता क़ानून मुसलमान विरोधी है और इस पर ऑर्गेनाइजेशन ऑफ इस्लामिक कोऑपरेशन यानी ओआईसी को प्रभावी आवाज़ उठानी चाहिए. ओआईसी इस्लामिक देशों का संगठन है और इसमें सऊदी अरब का दबदबा है.
पाकिस्तान के मुल्तान में एक प्रेस कॉन्फ़्रेंस को संबोधित करते हुए क़ुरैशी ने कहा कि ओआईसी कश्मीर में मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन और नागरिकता संशोधन क़ानून का प्रभावी तरीके से विरोध करे. पाकिस्तानी विदेश मंत्री ने कहा कि उन्होंने इन मामलों को लेकर अन्य इस्लामिक देशों से बात की है और ओआईसी के सदस्य देशों के विदेश मंत्रियों की बैठक का प्रस्ताव दिया है. क़ुरैशी ने कहा कि उन्हें इस मामले में सकारात्मक प्रतिक्रिया मिली है. रेडियो पाकिस्तान ने रविवार को अपनी रिपोर्ट में बताया है कि ओआईसी ने भारत प्रशासित कश्मीर में मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन और नागरिकता संशोधन क़ानून को लेकर एक बैठक करने का फ़ैसला लिया है. कहा जा रहा है कि इस तरह की बैठक अगले साल अप्रैल में इस्लामाबाद में होगी.

स्विट्ज़रलैंड के दावोस में 21 से 24 जनवरी के बीच वर्ल्ड इकोनॉमिक फ़ोरम की बैठक होने वाली है. चर्चा है कि इस बैठक से इतर मलेशिया के वाणिज्य मंत्री डारेल लेइकिंग और भारत के वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल मुलाक़ात कर सकते हैं. न्यूज़ एजेंसी रॉयटर्स के मुताबिक मलेशिया सरकार के प्रवक्ता ने इस बात की जानकारी दी है. हालांकि, रॉयटर्स के ही मुताबिक़ वाणिज्य मंत्रालय के अधिकारी ने व्यस्त कार्यक्रम होने के चलते ऐसी किसी मुलाक़ात होने की योजना से इनकार किया है. इस मुलाक़ात को लेकर चर्चा इसलिए हो रही है क्योंकि मलेशिया के प्रधानमंत्री महातिर मोहम्मद के भारत के ख़िलाफ़ बयान के बाद दोनों देशों में व्यावसायिक स्तर पर टकराव चल रहा है जिसके केंद्र में है- भारत में मलेशिया से आयात होने वाला पाम ऑयल यानी ताड़ का तेल. भारत की ओर से जम्मू-कश्मीर को विशेष दर्जा देने वाले अनुच्छेद 370 को निष्प्रभावी किए जाने और नया नागरिकता क़ानून (सीएए) लाने पर प्रधानमंत्री महातिर मोहम्मद के बयान के बाद दोनों देशों के बीच संबंधों में तनाव आ गया है.

Reynhard Sinaga, seorang warga Indonesia, dijatuhi hukuman seumur hidup setelah dinyatakan bersalah melakukan perkosaan dan serangan seksual terhadap 48 pria Inggris.

Jaksa penuntut mengatakan terdapat hampir 160 dakwaan yang dijatuhkan kepada Reynhard.

Reynhard adalah mahasiswa Indonesia yang tengah mengambil studi doktoral saat ditangkap polisi pada Juni 2017. Sebelumnya, Reynhard telah tinggal di Manchester sejak 2007.

Polisi menemukan bukti berupa video perkosaan sebanyak ratusan jam di ponsel milik Reynhard yang disita polisi. Reynhard diketahui memancing korbannya masuk ke apartemennya dan kemudian diberi minuman berisi obat bius.

Setelah tidak sadar, dia melakukan serangan seksual dan memfilmkannya.

Sepanjang persidangan Reynhard mengklaim bahwa semua aksinya dilakukan atas dasar suka sama suka.

दिल्ली विधानसभा चुनावों में भाजपा की तरफ़ से प्रचार के लिए उतारे गए उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ का कहना है कि देश के स्वर्ग को नरक बनाने वाली धारा को, देश के अंदर अलगाववाद और अराजकता की धारा को हटाने पर राहुल गांधी और अरविंद केजरीवाल को परेशानी होती है. स्वाभाविक रूप से कांग्रेस देश विभाजन की दोषी भी है और आज जब देश की सम्प्रभुता और एक भारत श्रेष्ठ भारत के अभियान को आगे बढ़ाने की कार्रवाई प्रारंभ होती है तो उन स्थितियों में अगर कांग्रेस और केजरीवाल देश में माहौल ख़राब करने का कुत्सित प्रयास कर रहे हैं, तो यह स्वीकार्य नहीं होना चाहिए. देश की जनता इसे स्वीकार नहीं करेगी. आज़ादी के समय भारत में बने रहने का विकल्प चुनने वाले मुसलमानों पर उन्होंने कहा कि इन लोगों ने कोई उपकार नहीं किया. ये भारत पर कोई उपकार नहीं है. देश के विभाजन का विरोध होना चाहिए था. भारत के विभाजन का विरोध होना चाहिए था. जो बातें भारत के हित में हैं आपको उनका समर्थन करना चाहिए. लेकिन जो भारत के विरोध में हैं उसका डटकर विरोध करना चाहिए. यही हमारी राष्ट्रभक्ति कहती है और यही भारत के हर नागरिक का दायित्व भी बनता है. योगी के कहने पर नहीं या फिर मोदी जी के कहने पर नहीं, अगर भारत के हित में है तो आप समर्थन कीजिए और अगर भारत के विरोध में है तो आप विरोध कीजिए.

Saat usianya baru 12 tahun, Iwan Nursyah kabur dari rumahnya di Bulukumba, Sulawesi Selatan. Nasib membawanya masuk ke Negara Bagian Sabah, Malaysia, secara ilegal, tanpa dokumen resmi.

Selama delapan tahun Iwan tinggal di pedalaman Sabah tanpa identitas warga negara.

Kini, berusia 20 tahun, Iwan ingin memperjuangkan kembali kewarganegaraannya, agar dia bisa mengakui anaknya dan kembali pulang ke Indonesia untuk bertemu keluarganya.

Di sisi lain, ada juga Efa, yang tidak bisa mengurus kartu identitas warga negara, akibat tidak punya akte kelahiran.

Secara keturunan, Efa adalah warga negara Malaysia, dari ayahnya. Namun, karena ibu yang bekerja sebagai TKI dan ayahnya menikah secara siri, Efa tidak mendapatkan sertifikat lahir.

Kini, di usia 19 tahun, dia memperjuangkan dokumen resmi agar anak yang dia kandung tidak bernasib seperti dirinya.

Efa dan Iwan hanya dua dari puluhan ribu, bahkan mungkin ratusan ribu, anak yang lahir di Malaysia tanpa memiliki kewarganegaraan.

Menurut Kementerian Dalam Negeri Malaysia, setidaknya 43.445 anak-anak atau anak muda, di bawah usia 21 tahun, masuk dalam kategori tanpa kewarganegaraan. Jumlah ini merujuk data tahun 2019.

Lembaga-lembaga dan organisasi-organisasi lain memperkirakan jumlah tersebut jauh lebih tinggi, mencapai ratusan ribu orang sebab data Kementerian Dalam Negeri tidak mencakup mereka yang belum terdaftar.

हाल के दिनों में भारत और मलेशिया के बीच तनाव बढ़ा, तो भारत ने मलेशिया से पाम ऑयल के आयात पर रोक लगा दी. पर, क्या ये मुमकिन है कि हम पाम ऑयल के बिना रह सकें? चलिए, पता लगाते हैं. अगर आप ने आज शैम्पू किया है, या साबुन से नहाए हैं. टूथपेस्ट से दांत साफ़ किए हैं. या विटामिन की गोलियां खाई हैं. या मेक-अप किया है. अगर आप ने नाश्ते में ब्रेड खाई है. या उस में मार्जरीन लगाया है. तो आप ने पाम ऑयल इस्तेमाल किया है. पाम ऑयल हमारी ज़िंदगी में इस क़दर पैठ बनाए हुए है कि अगर इन में से कुछ भी नहीं किया, तो आप ने अपनी कॉफ़ी में क्रीम डाली है. आप ने बटर और दूध इस्तेमाल किया है. तो जिस गाय से वो दूध और मक्खन निकला है, उस ने पाम के पेड़ से बना चारा खाया होगा. यहां तक कि आप जिस गाड़ी में सफ़र करते हैं. वो बस, ट्रेन या कार भी ऐसे ईंधन से चलती है, जिस में पाम ऑयल मिलाया जाता है. आज पेट्रोल या डीज़ल में जो जैविक ईंधन या बायो-फ्यूल मिलाया जाता है, वो असल में पाम ऑयल ही होता है. यहां तक कि बहुत से घरों तक बिजली पहुंचाने में भी पाम ऑयल का रोल रहता है. पाम ऑयल, दुनिया का सब से लोकप्रिय वेजिटेबल ऑयल है. ये आज दुनिया के पचास प्रतिशत घरेलू उत्पादों में इस्तेमाल होता है. औद्योगिक कामों की बात करें, तो वहां भी इस का बहुत उपयोग होता है. 2018 में दुनिया भर के किसानों ने 7.7 करोड़ टन पाम ऑयल पैदा किया था. 2024 तक पाम ऑयल का उत्पादन बढ़ कर क़रीब 11 करोड़ टन पहुंचने की संभावना है.

An American explorer has descended nearly 11km (seven miles) to the deepest place in the ocean - the Mariana Trench in the Pacific.

Victor Vescovo spent four hours exploring the bottom of the trench with the risk of his submersible imploding if anything were to go wrong.

The dive was later verified to be 10,972m and Victor became the first person to reach the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean.

Selama 20 tahun terakhir, Terrence merayakan Natal sendirian. Hal itu dia ungkapkan dalam sebuah wawancara dengan BBC Breakfast.

Para perempuan di Kalimantan Barat kerap menjadi korban aksi perdagangan orang berkedok pernikahan, yang lebih dikenal dengan sebutan 'pengantin pesanan'. Para perempuan ini menikah dengan pria asal China dengan tujuan mengubah nasib. Namun, yang mereka dapat justru sengsara.

Itulah yang terjadi pada Merry. Perempuan asal Kabupaten Landak ini, menerima tawaran mak comblang untuk menikahi pria asal China. Tujuan Merry adalah memperbaiki nasib, demi kedua anaknya.

Namun, sesampainya di China, dia malah mendapat kekerasan serta pelecehan seksual dari suami dan mertuanya. Dia akhirnya melarikan diri dan kembali pulang ke Indonesia.

Juliana, salah satu pengurus Serikat Buruh Migran Indonesia (SBMI) yang menangani kasus pengantin pesanan, menyebut ekonomi merupakan faktor utama yang mendorong para korban masuk jeratan sindikat perdagangan orang ini.

Selain itu, kata Juliana, pendidikan dan akses informasi yang rendah juga melanggengkan bisnis gelap pengantin pesanan.

"Ini faktor ekonomi. Mereka ingin mengubah hidup keluarga, dari petani pindah ke kota. Ditawari apapun oleh mak comblang, diimingi uang pasti mereka tergiur, walaupun mas kawin hanya Rp25 juta."

Sepanjang 2019, terdapat 42 perempuan Indonesia yang diadvokasi KBRI di Beijing dalam kasus pengantin pesanan. Dari perkara itu, 36 orang diantaranya sudah dipulangkan.

Di sisi lain, Direktur Perlindungan Warga Negara Indonesia di Kementerian Luar Negeri, Judha Nugroho, menyebut staf KBRI tidak bisa begitu saja memulangkan pengantin pesanan ke Indonesia, meskipun mereka mengaku mengalami KDRT.

"Jika terikat perkawinan resmi dan tidak ingin melanjutkannya, mereka harus bercerai dulu. Kalau tidak, pemerintah China tidak akan mengeluarkan izin keluar kepada mereka," ujarnya.

Kasus pengantin pesanan ini juga terjadi pada anak di bawah umur. Salah satu korban yang berhasil diselamatkan sebelum dinikahkan adalah Citra (bukan nama sebenarnya).

Polres Mempawah yang menangani kasus Citra menyebut pihaknya baru saja menetapkan satu tersangka dalam kasus pengantin pesanan, yaitu mak comblang yang menawarkan sejumlah uang kepada orang tua Citra agar mau melepaskan anaknya untuk menikah.

Dia ditangkap karena diduga melanggar UU 21/2007 tentang tindak pidana perdagangan orang.

Kejahatan itu didefinisikan sebagai merekrut, mengangkut, menampung, atau mengirim seseorang dengan ancaman, kekerasan, pemalsuan, dan penipuan dengan tujuan atau berakibat eksploitasi.

Drone video shows the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp as it is today - 70 years after it was liberated by Soviet troops. The camp in Poland is now maintained as a World Heritage Site and is visited by thousands of tourists and survivors every year. Auschwitz was the largest camp established by the Germans during World War II. More than a million people - the vast majority of them Jews - died there between 1940, when it was built, and 1945, when it was liberated by the Soviet army.

Railway tracks into Auschwitz-Birkenau - Trains filled with victims from throughout occupied Europe arrived at the camp almost every day between 1942 and the summer of 1944.

Ruins of wooden huts at Birkenau - Birkenau (or Auschwitz II) was erected in 1941 solely as a death camp, the wooden huts are now in ruins with only brick fireplaces and chimneys remaining.

Entrance to Auschwitz I -The wrought-iron sign over the entrance bears the words Arbeit Macht Frei - "Work sets you free".

Auschwitz I - The brick-built buildings were the former cavalry barracks of the Polish Army.

Courtyard between blocks 10 and 11 at Auschwitz I - Block 11 was called "the Block of Death" by prisoners. Executions took place between Block 10 and Block 11 and posts in the yard were used to string up prisoners by their wrists.

Auschwitz Birkenau is now a museum run by the Polish Culture Ministry, and a Unesco world heritage site.

Saat ditanya apakah dia bisa memaafkan ayahnya atas nasibnya yang kini terkatung-katung di Suriah, Nada menjawab, "Ya, saya memaafkan dia, karena dia juga manusia. Semua manusia melakukan kesalahan."

Nada hanyalah satu dari ribuan bahkan puluhan ribu anak-anak petempur ISIS dari berbagai negara di dunia, yang kini terjebak di Suriah, setelah kekhalifan dikalahkan pasukan koalisi internasional. Banyak negara yang menolak keluarga dan eks-anggota ISIS kembali pulang karena khawatir bisa melahirkan sel-sel teroris baru.

Reynhard Sinaga, warga negara Indonesia yang dihukum seumur hidup karena terbukti bersalah memerkosa dan melakukan serangan seksual terhadap 48 pria Inggris, mengklaim bahwa tindakannya didasarkan atas 'suka sama suka'.

Kepada Pejabat KBRI yang mendampinginya selama persidangan, ia menolak tuduhan membius korban dan menyerang mereka dalam keadaan tidak sadar.

"Sejauh ini posisinya dia (Reynhard) mengatakan bahwa hubungan badan yang dilakukan adalah dalam konteks suka sama suka," ujar Jaki Nurhasya, pejabat konsuler KBRI London, Inggris.

KBRI mendampingi Reynhard sejak ia ditangkap pada Juni 2017 untuk memastikan dia mendapat proses hukum yang adil.

People have been queuing across the Indian state of Assam to check if their name is on the National Register of Citizens.

India has published the final version of a list which effectively strips about 1.9 million people in the north-eastern state of their citizenship.

Families have been required to provide documentation to show their lineage, with those who cannot prove their citizenship deemed illegal foreigners.

India says the process is needed to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

A family who spent nine years on a farm "waiting for the end of time" have been discovered by police in the Netherlands after one of them turned up at a local pub, reports say.

A man of 58 and six young adults aged 18 to 25 were living at a farm in the province of Drenthe.

The family were found after the eldest of the children ordered beer at a bar in the nearby village of Ruinerwold.

He then told staff he needed help, broadcaster RTV Drenthe reported.

"We found six people living in a small space in the house which could be locked but wasn't a basement," police said in a statement late on Tuesday.

The older man has been arrested. According to the family, he is the father of the six children, say police. It was not clear whether they had been there voluntarily, police added. The eldest son was not there at the time, police told the BBC.

Iran's most powerful military commander, General Qasem Soleimani, has been killed by a US air strike in Iraq.

The 62-year-old spearheaded Iranian military operations in the Middle East as head of Iran's elite Quds Force.

He was killed at Baghdad airport, along with other Iran-backed militia figures, early on Friday in a strike ordered by US President Donald Trump.

Soleimani's killing marks a major escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Under his leadership, Iran had bolstered Hezbollah in Lebanon and other pro-Iranian militant groups, expanded Iran's military presence in Iraq and Syria and orchestrated Syria's offensive against rebel groups in the country's long civil war.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said "severe revenge awaits the criminals" behind the attack. He also announced three days of national mourning.

Trong một phỏng vấn đặc biệt với BBC, chị Bùi Kim Anh, một phụ nữ Việt đang sinh sống tại Hàng Châu, kể về trải nghiệm khi sống trong môi trường bị kiểm soát gắt gao vì dịch bệnh, tâm lý của người dân Hàng Châu và các biện pháp ứng phó của chính quyền thành phố.

“Trong thời điểm mình cảm thấy bị kiểm soát chặt nhất, đúng là lúc mình cảm thấy an toàn nhất. Vì khi mọi người đều tuân theo những quy định nghiêm ngặt đó, mình cảm thấy an toàn vì không ai có thể làm sai cái mà họ [chính quyền] muốn.

“Đó cũng là cách mà mình bảo vệ cho sức khỏe của mình và chống dịch virus này,” chị Kim Anh chia sẻ.

Chị cũng chia sẻ về tác động lên đời sống hàng ngày và thu nhập của người lao động do dịch virus corona.

Những ai có khả năng làm việc tại nhà vẫn nhận lương như bình thường và không bị ảnh hưởng. Nhưng công nhân làm cho các nhà máy, công xưởng có thể bị ảnh hưởng nếu nhà máy đóng cửa, hoặc khó từ quê trở về thành phố để làm việc, chị Kim Anh cho biết.

BBC News menelusuri jejak pengebom bunuh diri ISIS asal Indonesia, Ruille Zeke dan Ulfa, yang sempat bersembunyi di Istanbul, Turki, sebelum kemudian dideportasi pulang ke Indonesia.

Sempat masuk program deradikalisasi, pasangan suami istri itu kemudian bergerak ke Malaysia, di mana mereka kembali berhubungan dengan ISIS. Dari situ mereka lalu berpindah ke Filipina dan menjadi martir di Sulu, Mindanao.

Di sisi lain, Sri Musfiah, konselor program deradikalisasi di Indonesia menyatakan tidak ada jaminan mantan kombatan yang sudah mengikuti program deradikalisasi bisa sepenuhnya bersih.

"Kami cukup kaget saat mendengar informasi mereka jadi pengebom bunuh diri, karena semasa di pusat rehabilitasi mereka adalah yang paling kooperatif," kata Sri kepada koresponden Timur Tengah BBC Quentin Sommerville.

Sementara itu, mantan ekstremis Sofyan Tsauri yang juga ditemui oleh Quentin mengatakan, setelah tewasnya pemimpin ISIS Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi dan runtuhnya kekhalifahan, para kombatan ISIS yang sebelumnya terpusat di Timur Tengah, kini bergerak ke Asia.

"Di Asia Tenggara, tempat yang menjadi favorit kalangan jihadis adalah Filipina dan kini mereka juga sedang membuka jalur ke Afghanistan di Khorasan," sebutnya.

Three US firefighters who died when their air tanker crashed while battling blazes in Australia have been identified.

Captain Ian McBeth, 45, first officer Paul Clyde Hudson, 43, and flight engineer Rick A DeMorgan Jr, 44, were killed in New South Wales on Thursday.

The cause of the C-130 Hercules crash is not yet known.

New South Wales (NSW) Premier Gladys Berejiklian called it an "unbelievable loss" and offered a state memorial.

Officials lost contact with the plane, owned by Canadian firefighting company Coulson Aviation, shortly before 13:30 local time (02:30 GMT).

Pakistan says it has shot down two Indian Air Force jets in a major escalation of the Kashmir conflict.

A spokesman said one plane had fallen in Pakistani territory and two pilots had been captured. Pakistan also denied reports one of its jets was shot down.

India has confirmed the loss of an MiG21 fighter and said a pilot was missing. It said it was investigating reports of his capture.
Both India and Pakistan claim all of Kashmir, but control only parts of it.

The nuclear powers have fought three wars since independence from Britain in 1947. All but one were over Kashmir.

Iran has admitted "unintentionally" shooting down a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing all 176 people on board.

An investigation found that "missiles fired due to human error", President Hassan Rouhani said. He described the crash as an "unforgivable mistake".

The military said the jet turned towards a sensitive site belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guards and was then mistaken for a cruise missile.

Iran had previously rejected suggestions that it was to blame.

The downing of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 on Wednesday came just hours after Iran carried out missile strikes on two airbases housing US forces in Iraq.

The strikes were a response to the killing of senior Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani in a US drone strike in Baghdad on 3 January.

Almost 2,000 houses have been destroyed in Australia's months-long bushfire crisis, officials say, as crews prepare frantically for worsening conditions.

After ferocious conditions last week, firefighters are using milder weather to boost containment lines around fires engulfing south-eastern Australia.

Temperatures are likely to soar again on Friday, prompting fears that two fires could form a new "mega blaze".

At least 25 people and millions of animals have died since September.

Australia is fighting an unprecedented bushfire season, fuelled by record temperatures and widespread drought.

On Tuesday, New South Wales (NSW) officials said fires there had claimed 1,588 homes and damaged 653 more.

About 200 homes have been destroyed in neighbouring Victoria, adding to more than 100 lost in other states.

Dalam wawancara eksklusif bersama koresponden bisnis Asia BBC News, Karishma Vaswani, Presiden Joko Widodo menjawab sejumlah kritik yang kerap dilontarkan padanya, mulai dari korupsi hingga intoleransi.

Menjawab kritik tentang upaya pelemahan Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK), Jokowi menyebut hal itu bukanlah inisiatif pemerintah, melainkan datang dari Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (DPR). Meskipun begitu dia mengakui bahwa KPK butuh pengawasan lebih.

Sementara soal dinasti politik, Jokowi menampik keluarganya terlibat.

"Dinasti politik itu, jika saya menunjuk keluarga, anak misalnya, untuk menjadi menteri," ujarnya.

"Kalau ada keluarga, misalnya anak, yang berpartisipasi dalam pilkada di daerah, itu rakyat yang menentukan, bukan Jokowi."

Di sisi lain, tentang ibu kota baru, Jokowi menyebut wilayah yang akan dibangun merupakan lahan hutan produksi, bukan hutan hujan tropis yang dilindungi. Dia juga mengatakan bahwa hak-hak suku asli akan dilindungi dan mereka akan dilibatkan dalam pengambilan keputusan.

Adapun Jokowi menepis anggapan tentang meningkatnya intoleransi, dia mengungkapkan bahwa "rakyat Indonesia itu sangat toleran dan moderat. Di Indonesia itu, DNA-nya adalah toleran dan moderat."

Hundreds of thousands of mourners have turned out in Iran to receive home the remains of Qasem Soleimani, the general killed by a US drone strike in Iraq.

In Ahvaz, where Soleimani served during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-88), mourners chanted: "Death to America."

Soleimani was the architect of Iran's sphere of influence across the Middle East, and was considered to be the country's second most powerful man.

His assassination marked a significant escalation between Iran and the US.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who had a close personal relationship with Soleimani, has warned of "severe revenge" for the attack, and analysts say Iran may pursue cyber-attacks against the US or traditional attacks on US targets or interests in the Middle East.

The US Navy said a Russian navy ship "aggressively approached" its destroyer in the Arabian Sea on Thursday while it was conducting routine operations.

The USS Farragut gave five warning blasts on its horn before the Russian warship changed course, avoiding collision.

The Russian Defence ministry has denied any wrongdoing, stating it was the US Navy that was "grossly in violation of international rules".

"The crew of the Russian warship acted professionally, performing a manoeuvre that prevented a collision with the intruder ship," the ministry's statement said.

Sebuah dokumen rahasia mengungkap kondisi sebenarnya di kamp-kamp rahasia yang dibangun Pemerintah China bagi Muslim Uighur di Provinsi Xinjiang.

Pemerintah China bersikeras bahwa kamp-kamp tersebut adalah pusat pendidikan dan pelatihan, namun dokumen yang dibaca BBC Panorama memperlihatkan sebaliknya.

Dalam dokumen tersebut tertulis perintah tegas bagi pengelola kamp, seperti: 'Tidak boleh ada yang kabur', 'Tegakkan disiplin dan hukuman', hingga 'Pelajaran tambahan bahasa Mandarin adalah wajib'.

Gulzira, seorang penyintas yang pernah mendekam di kamp tersebut selama 15 bulan mengatakan menceritakan pengalamannya hidup di dalam kamp tersebut.

"Ada kamera di mana-mana, bahkan di toilet. Kami tidak bebas. Tidak bisa kabur," katanya.

Seorang pengacara yang dimintai pendapat oleh BBC menyebut bahwa disiplin yang ditegakkan di kamp tersebut bahkan 'lebih militer dari penjara militer'.

At least 35 people have been killed in a stampede as Iranians flocked to the burial of a top commander killed in a US drone strike, Iranian media report.

The deaths led to the postponement of Qasem Soleimani's burial. A new time will be announced later, officials say.

Soleimani is being laid to rest in his hometown of Kerman with millions already estimated to have packed the streets for funeral processions.

His killing has raised fears of a conflict between the US and Iran.

Soleimani was widely considered the second most powerful man in Iran behind Supreme Leader Khamenei. The US saw him as a terrorist and a threat to American troops.

President Trump adopted a tough stance against Iran after his election and Tehran responded with their own campaign. Tensions were raised further last month after the US attacked an Iranian-backed militia in Iraq it blamed for attacks on US forces.

It is unclear what caused the stampede in Kerman, south-eastern Iran, but vast numbers of people were in the streets ahead of Soleimani's planned burial.

Rain has fallen in fire-ravaged parts of Australia and temperatures have dropped - but officials have warned that blazes will "take off" again.

Sooty rain fell down the east coast, from Sydney to Melbourne, with "torrential" rain reported in some parts of New South Wales (NSW).

Officials said temperatures would soar again by Friday.

They also said huge fires in Victoria and NSW could meet to create a larger "mega blaze".

"There is no room for complacency," NSW state Premier Gladys Berejiklian warned on Monday.

"This morning it is all about recovery, making sure people who have been displaced have somewhere safe."

Despite the respite, haze pollution remained dangerously high.

Millions of Venezuelans have left the country in the last two years, fleeing the oil-rich nation’s economic collapse.

Shortages of food and basic goods, years of recession, soaring inflation and regular power shortages have left the country almost on its knees.

The government says those against the socialist President Nicolas Maduro are waging an "economic war" – but many within and outside the country blame his policies, combined with corruption and mismanagement.

One of the most affected areas is the state of Zulia, long known as the centre of the country's oil industry.

Leaked documents detail for the first time China's systematic brainwashing of hundreds of thousands of Muslims in a network of high-security prison camps.

The Chinese government has consistently claimed the camps in the far western Xinjiang region offer voluntary education and training.

But official documents, seen by BBC Panorama, show how inmates are locked up, indoctrinated and punished.

China's UK ambassador Liu Xiaoming dismissed the documents as fake news. He said the measures had safeguarded local people and there had not been a single terrorist attack in Xinjiang in the past three years.

"In total disregard of the facts, some people in the West have been fiercely slandering and smearing China over Xinjiang in an attempt to create an excuse to interfere in China's internal affairs, disrupt China's counter-terrorism efforts in Xinjiang and thwart China's steady development," he said.

The leak was made to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), which has worked with 17 media partners, including BBC Panorama and The Guardian newspaper in the UK.

Fear of the virus also means many people will choose to avoid activities they think might expose them to the risk of infection. So restaurants, cinemas, transport providers, hotels and shops are all quickly feeling the impact.

The former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that current tension between Russia and the West is putting the world in "colossal danger" due to the threat from nuclear weapons.

The bodies of 39 people have been found in a lorry container in Essex.

The vehicle, registered in Bulgaria, was found shortly before 01:40 BST at Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays, police said.

Essex Police moved the lorry to a secure location so the bodies inside could be recovered.

The lorry driver, named locally as Mo Robinson, 25, from the Portadown area of County Armagh, Northern Ireland, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Essex Police said the trailer arrived via ferry from Zeebrugge, Belgium, into Purfleet on the River Thames.

The ship docked in the Thurrock area shortly after 00:30, the force said.

It is believed the container and lorry then left the port together about 35 minutes later.

Taiwan’s newly re-elected President Tsai Ing-Wen told the BBC that China needs to face reality and respect the will of the Taiwanese people. President Trump has threatened severe sanctions against Iraq after its parliament called on US troops to leave the country.

"We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that's there. It cost billions of dollars to build. We're not leaving unless they pay us back for it," he told reporters.

Tensions are high after the US assassinated Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad last week.

Iran has vowed "severe revenge".

Soleimani, 62, spearheaded Iranian military operations in the Middle East, and was regarded as a terrorist by the US.

The general's remains have now returned to his home country, where mourners packed the streets of Tehran early on Monday.

Huge crowds packed the streets of the Iranian capital Tehran for the funeral of the slain Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.

Soleimani was assassinated in a US drone strike in Iraq on Friday on the orders of President Donald Trump.

The leader of Australia's eastern New South Wales state has declared a week-long state of emergency in response to the escalating bushfire threat.

High temperatures and strong winds are forecast for the weekend, leading to "widespread extreme fire danger".

Troops are also preparing to evacuate some of the 4,000 people trapped by fires in neighbouring Victoria state.

Since September, bushfires have killed 18 people and destroyed more than 1,200 homes across NSW and Victoria.

At least 17 people remain missing after fires this week alone.

Around sixty thousand people have fled their homes in North Eastern Syria on the second day of a major air and ground assault by Turkish forces. There's been heavy fighting in the central border region. Some civilians have been killed and dozens more have been injured on both sides of the border. Turkey's President Erdogan regards the Kurdish fighters in Syria as terrorists - he claims more than a hundred have been killed.

Turkey is trying to seize land just inside the border to create what it claims is a "safe zone" in Syria to settle some of the millions of Syrian refugees who have fled the eight-year war.

A Ukrainian Boeing-737 with more than 170 people on board has crashed in Iran, officials say.

Iran's Red Crescent said there was no chance of finding survivors.

The Ukraine International Airlines plane crashed just after take-off from Iran's Imam Khomeini airport in Tehran, said the Fars state news agency.

The plane was flying to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. Ukraine's government said a crisis group was being set up to investigate the crash.

President Volodymyr Zelensky was cutting short a trip to Oman and returning to Kyiv, a statement said.

"My sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of all passengers and crew," he said in a statement.

Iraqi MPs have passed a resolution calling for foreign troops to leave the country after the US killed top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in a drone strike at Baghdad airport last week.

Parliament also called for a formal complaint to be made at the UN about US "violations" of Iraqi sovereignty.

Some 5,000 US soldiers are in Iraq as part of the international coalition against the Islamic State (IS) group.

The coalition paused operations against IS in Iraq just before Sunday's vote.

It said it was doing so to enable its forces to concentrate on protecting US, UK and other troops at bases in Iraq.

Buckingham Palace has expressed displeasure after the former Prime Minister David Cameron revealed that he sought the Queen's help during the Scottish independence referendum campaign. In a BBC documentary, Mr Cameron said that in 2014 he had asked if the Queen could intervene because he was concerned Scotland was going to vote for independence. The Queen later urged people to 'think very carefully' about the future.

A fourth person in China has died from a new virus that has spread rapidly across the country, as authorities confirmed that it can be passed from person-to-person.

A 89-year-old man was the latest victim of the new strain of coronavirus, which causes a type of pneumonia.

He lived in Wuhan, the city at the centre of the outbreak.

More than 200 cases have now been reported across major cities in China including Beijing and Shanghai.

The 39 people found dead in a refrigerated trailer in Essex were Chinese nationals, it is understood.

Police are continuing to question lorry driver Mo Robinson, 25, who was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers in Northern Ireland have raided two houses and the National Crime Agency said it was working to identify "organised crime groups who may have played a part".

The trailer arrived in Purfleet on the River Thames from Zeebrugge in Belgium.

Ambulance staff discovered the bodies of the 38 adults and one teenager in the container at Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays just after 01:30 BST on Wednesday.

The lorry and trailer left the port at Purfleet shortly after 01:05.

Police said the tractor unit - the front part of the lorry - came from Northern Ireland and picked up the trailer from Purfleet.

A volcano in the Philippines has begun spewing lava, as authorities warn that a "hazardous eruption" is possible "within hours or days".

In the early hours of Monday, a weak flow of lava began seeping out of Taal volcano - located some 70km (45 miles) south of the capital Manila.

It comes after it emitted a huge plume of ash, triggering the mass evacuation of 8,000 people from the area.

Taal is the Philippines' second most active volcano.

Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament was unlawful, the Supreme Court has ruled.

Mr Johnson suspended - or prorogued - Parliament for five weeks earlier this month, saying it was to allow a Queen's Speech to outline his new policies.

But the UK's highest court said it was wrong to stop Parliament carrying out its duties.

The court's president, Lady Hale, said: "The effect on the fundamentals of our democracy was extreme."

One image shared widely by Twitter users, including by singer Rihanna, was interpreted as a map showing the live extent of fire spread, with large sections of the Australian coastline molten-red and fiery. But it is actually artist Anthony Hearsey's visualisation of one month of data of locations where fire was detected, collected by Nasa's Fire Information for Resource Management System.


Australia is fighting one of its worst bushfire seasons, fuelled by record-breaking temperatures and months of severe drought.

Since September, at least 25 people have died and thousands have been made homeless.

More than 6.3 million hectares (63,000 sq km or 15.6 million acres) have been burned so far - one hectare is roughly the size of a sports field.

Scores of fires are burning out of control across Australia amid a heatwave that has seen temperatures exceed 40C (104F) in every state.

The most dangerous fires on Monday were in the state of Victoria.

About 30,000 residents and tourists were urged to flee East Gippsland - a popular holiday region - but evacuations were later deemed too risky as fires encroached on major roads.

A volunteer firefighter died battling a blaze in the state of New South Wales.

The state's premier, Gladys Berejiklian, described the death as "heartbreaking".

"Words fail at times like this," she wrote on Twitter. Two others were taken to hospital with burns after battling the blaze, east of the city of Albury. It is believed their truck rolled over after being hit by extreme winds.

Boris Johnson has said he hopes his party's "extraordinary" election win will bring "closure" to the Brexit debate and "let the healing begin".

Speaking in Downing Street, he said he would seek to repay the trust placed in him by Labour supporters who had voted Conservative for the first time.

He said he would not ignore those who opposed Brexit as he builds with Europe a partnership "of sovereign equals".

The Tories have won a Commons majority of 80, the party's largest since 1987.

The Conservatives' victory in the 650th and final contest of the election - the seat of St Ives, in Cornwall - took their total number of MPs up to 365 MPs. Labour finished on 203, the SNP 48, Liberal Democrats 11 and the DUP eight.

Iran has carried out a ballistic missile attack on air bases housing US forces in Iraq, in retaliation for the US killing of General Qasem Soleimani.

More than a dozen missiles launched from Iran struck two air bases in Irbil and Al Asad, west of Baghdad.

It is unclear if there have been any casualties.

The initial response from Washington has been muted. President Trump tweeted that all was well and said casualties and damage were being assessed.

Two Iraqi bases housing US and coalition troops were targeted - one at Al Asad and one in Irbil at about 2:00am local time (10.30pm GMT), just hours after the burial of Soleimani.

The Al Asad airbase - located in the Anbar province of western Iraq - was hit by at least six missiles.

US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged warm words of friendship in Texas at a rare mass rally for a foreign leader.

Around 50,000 people gathered for what Mr Trump called a "profoundly historic event" on Sunday in Houston.

The "Howdy, Modi!" event was billed as one of the largest ever receptions of a foreign leader in the US.

Mr Modi, however, may face a frostier reception at the UN General Assembly.

He is likely to face criticism over tensions in Indian-administered Kashmir, which he stripped of its special status last month, promising to restore the region to its "past glory".

Party leaders made their case to business leaders at the annual gathering of the Confederation of British Industry in London. The Prime Minister announced the Conservatives would postpone a planned cut in corporation tax next year, saving around £6bn, and spend the money on priorities such as the NHS. Australia is grappling with massive bushfires fuelled by record-breaking temperatures and months of severe drought.

In the worst-affected state, New South Wales, fires have burned more than 4 million hectares (40,000 sq km or 9.9 million acres) destroying more than 1,300 houses and forcing thousands to seek shelter elsewhere.

Across the country, 20 people have died - including three volunteer firefighters - with most of the casualties in New South Wales.

The civil war in Syria looks set to enter a new and even more dangerous phase, with government forces on the move to help Kurdish fighters under attack from Turkey. Turkish forces crossed into Syria last week. The Turkish government regards the Kurdish fighters as terrorists, and wants to occupy a buffer zone reaching 20 miles into Syria. The Kurds have now turned to Syria's President Assad for help. And today Syrian government forces entered several towns just south of the border - setting up a potentially dangerous confrontation with Turkey.

Lockdown measures are increasing across China's Hubei province to try to control the spread of a new virus that has left 17 people dead.

Wuhan, Hubei's capital of 11 million people where the virus first emerged, has no trains or planes in or out.

At least four other provincial cities are seeing clampdowns on transport.

There are more than 500 confirmed cases of the virus, which has spread abroad, with Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam the latest affected.

Glaciologists have described Thwaites Glacier as the "most important" glacier in the world, the "riskiest" glacier, even the "doomsday" glacier.

A team of 40 or so scientists are part of the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration, a five-year, $50m (£38m) joint UK-US effort to understand why it is changing so rapidly.

The project represents the biggest and most complex scientific field programme in Antarctic history.

The US Senate has found President Trump not guilty of abuse of power and the obstruction of congress in his historic impeachment trial. Donald Trump had been charged with high crimes and misdemeanours by the members of the House of Representatives but, as expected, the Republican majority in the Senate cleared him, which means he'll fight for re-election in November.

從高度疑似到確診，小葉又等了4天。根據當時的規定，確診病例需要由專家組研究判定，需要在專家組上班時間內接受會診才有機會得到核酸檢測試劑盒。小葉在25日被認定為高度疑似病例後，由於專家組沒有上班，直到28日複查時才等到專家會診並確診。

即便如此，小葉認為自己的看病經歷比起許多人已算順利很多。「因為我們家有車，這個真的很關鍵，去醫院拿藥，治療必須有車，」他表示。「很多情況都是因為沒有交通工具被耽誤了，很多人告訴我，他們幾乎叫不到的士，只能等社區分配，那個時候社區能調動的車也極少，如果沒有車基本上就沒什麼辦法了。」

A Chinese city of nearly 11 million people is to temporarily shut public transport as it tries to halt the outbreak of a new virus. The coronavirus outbreak has killed 17 people so far, and there are more than 500 confirmed cases.

Those living in the city of Wuhan have been advised not to leave, as millions of people are due to travel for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday. The airport and train stations will also be closed to outgoing passengers.

There were almost 15,000 knife crimes recorded in London last year - the highest since records began. Clive Myrie spent several weeks at the Royal London Hospital's trauma unit, where many of the victims are treated.

Police forces across England and Wales are battling rising levels of knife crime.

New figures show that between 2014 and 2018, offences involving knives in England and Wales increased by more than two-thirds - rising sharply outside London, but with the capital still the most dangerous area.

The trauma team at the Royal London Hospital in east London is one of the busiest in Europe, dealing with knife and gun attacks.

Forty people have been killed in a stampede as Iranians flocked to the burial of a top commander killed in a US drone strike, officials say.

The deaths in Qasem Soleimani's hometown of Kerman led to the postponement of his interment. A new time will be announced later.

Millions are already estimated to have packed the streets for a series of funeral processions in Iran.

Soleimani's killing has raised fears of a conflict between the US and Iran.

He was widely considered the second most powerful man in Iran behind Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The US saw him as a terrorist and a threat to American troops.

BBC's Feras Kilani with the view from Baghdad as the US Defence Secretary Mark Esper has denied US troops are pulling out of Iraq, after a letter from a US general there suggested a withdrawal.

The letter said the US would be "repositioning forces in the coming days and weeks" after Iraqi MPs had called for them to leave.

Mr Esper said there had been "no decision whatsoever to leave".

The confusion came amid threats to American forces after the US killed top Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani.

He died in a US drone strike in Baghdad on Friday on the orders of Mr Trump.

World leaders joined survivors here to keep alive the memory of the victims. 6 million people, mostly Jewish, were murdered by the Nazis, more than a million of them in the camp. 75 years ago today, the Soviet Army liberated Auschwitz, and it came to symbolise the horror of the Nazi regime. Today’s ceremony had at its heart the survivors, who urged the world never to forget the suffering here.

Chinese authorities have urged people to stop travelling in and out of Wuhan, the city at the centre of a new virus outbreak that has killed nine.

Those living in the city of 8.9 million people have also been told to avoid crowds and minimise public gatherings.

The new virus has spread from Wuhan to several Chinese provinces, as well as the US, Thailand and South Korea.

There are 440 confirmed cases, with the origin a seafood market that "conducted illegal transactions of wild animals".

"Basically, do not go to Wuhan. And those in Wuhan please do not leave the city," said National Health Commission vice-minister Li Bin in one of the first public briefings since the beginning of the outbreak.
